Summary
Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this multi-million-copy New York Times bestseller is the definitive manual for anyone interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control-from the author of The Laws of Human Nature.

In the book that People magazine proclaimed 'beguiling' and 'fascinating,' Robert Greene and Joost Elffers have distilled three thousand years of the history of power into forty-eight essential laws by drawing from the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, and Carl Von Clausewitz and also from the lives of figures ranging from Henry Kissinger to P. T. Barnum.

Some laws teach the need for prudence ('Law 1: Never Outshine the Master'), others teach the value of confidence ('Law 28: Enter Action with Boldness'), and many recommend absolute self-preservation ('Law 15: Crush Your Enemy Totally'). Every law, though, has one thing in common: an interest in total domination. The 48 Laws of Power is ideal whether your aim is conquest, self-defense, or simply to understand the rules of the game.

If you keep an open and objective mind, this book will immensely help you in your personal and professional life. Some might be fooled to interpret the books ideals as nothing more than manipulation. You must be keen enough to understand that human psychology is very complex in nature and this book just helps you navigate it.

I love this book! I love the narrator and the music between chapters! I love the history! You may not want to practice its principles but you will be able to recognize them and defend yourself against them. Human nature has not changed!

Author might be a sociopath, or knows how to crawl into the mind of a social path. Even being kind in this book or child is considered, a power play. But if you want to understand how selfish creeps functions, this is a great guide.

I loved this book! I couldn't stop listening and I found each point intriguing. I just finished this book and I am probably going to go through it a second time, even though I have other books in queue. I have been using this book to influence some relationships at work. It is amazing that I am able to subtly manipulate people into liking me by appearing powerful just as the book says. People are hard wired to react certain ways and this book shows you how to get what you want in life if you apply what you learn. Loved it! Going to read it again.

I don't like the narrator. His voice is irritating

The narrator sounds like he's trying to seduce the friggin microphone. Gentle caresses with a dEeP sExY vOicE... good as a sleep aid. That being said, there are some passages that just seem like rambling. "Patience is a skill, it does not come naturally. But nothing about power is natural, power is more godlike than anything in the natural world, and patience is the supreme virtue of the gods, who have more time than anything." Uh...okay.

haven't finished yet on law 44 now. so far so good however doesn't always apply to every scenarios i.e. some are good for love life, others for the workplace, others for authority. can not apply laws to every aspect of life

This book changed my life. I only download the audio book in order to refresh my memory at work. These principles still hold true today in modern society, although 3000 years old, mankind's actions haven't changed at all.

Although there are some very good pieces of advice in this book the examples are from such ancient history that it has no relevance to today's world. I could hardly stand to listen to the whole book. I struggled through but it was a total waste of time and if I'd had another book arrive during the listening period - I would have quit mid-way. The speaker was OK - but I would not recommend this book.
