Summary
A mind-bending new novel inspired by the twisted and wondrous works of Lewis CarrollIn a warren of crumbling buildings and desperate people called the Old City stands a hospital with cinder-block walls that echo the screams of the poor souls inside. In the hospital, there is a woman. Her hair, once blond, hangs in tangles down her back. She doesn’t remember why she’s in such a terrible place—just a tea party long ago, and long ears and blood …Then, one night, a fire at the hospital gives the woman a chance to escape. She tumbles out of the hole that imprisoned her, leaving her free to uncover the truth about what happened to her all those years ago.Only something else has escaped with her. Something dark. Something powerful. And to find the truth, she will have to track this beast to the very heart of the Old City, where the Rabbit waits for his Alice.“A unique spin on a classic and one wild ride!”—Gena Showalter, New York Timesbestselling author of Alice in Zombieland

This was quite the interesting twist on Alice in Wonderland. My first audiobook from Christina Henry was Lost Boy, which I absolutely loved. Her way of writing a dark retelling is bizarre and unique. This story is violent, disturbing, menacing, and nightmarish. While the names/characters are the same as Alice, the characters are much more monstrous. I love Alice and Hatcher’s friendship. After spending so many years locked away in an asylum with only each other for solace, their bond is deep and unique. I didn’t love it as much as Lost Boy, but it was still enthralling and worth the listen. \r\n\r\n“Alice dreamed of blood. Blood on her hands and under her feet, blood in her mouth and pouring from her eyes. The room was filled with it.”\r\n\r\nJenny Sterlin was cast perfectly for this role. Her timing, pitch, pace, and tone was perfect. Her accents and characterizations were spot on. I absolutely love her voice. She gives it a Victorian feel, making the listening experience that much more fascinating. I highly recommend the audiobook version of Alice.

terrible. I don't know what the other two reviewers were smoking but this book was a complete dud. It is repetitive and you will hear the topic of rape and women taken and forced into sexual slavery come up over and over again. the story really isn't very cohesive and the end just ends rather abruptly without much closure. I would never recommend this to anyone and wish I could have the last 8 hours of my life back.

An EXCELLENT adaptation of the classic tale. If you're a fan of Alice In Wonderland or not, even if you've never read the series matters not, this is a must read/listen! Beautifully written and narrated. I'll be putting this on my top10 favs list and moving to book #2 Red Queen ASAP!
