Unabridged Audiobook
I think it's incredibly disrespectful to have white British actors read--and also perform accents for--a South Asian novel, given the history of colonization. I deeply loved Anita Desai's 1980 novel when I read it and was excited to read more from her, but I could only power through about 17 minutes of this audiobook before I needed to call it quits. Severely disappointed in how this publisher handled production (ethically), and the fact this platform is giving voice to this questionable decision. A huge miss for me. Also, unfortunately, rating this book low, simply because I couldn't listen through it. Anita Desai is a talented and reliable author who warrants more stars and praise than what I've given, if that's any consolation.
