Wow. The rampant misogyny in thos book is absolutely staggering. The female characters are all sex objects or "bitches", or both. And the male character, in spite of his inferior knowledge and capabilities is given the promotion over the female because he possesses some sort of indefinable "feel" that she lacks. And her understandable and justified bitterness about the situation has her labeled a "bitch." This book really encapsulates so much of what is wrong with our society. And I get the feeling that the author is completely oblivious to it. This is trite hogwash for men suffering from inferiority complex who need to have their false belief in male superiority reinforced. Get ahead with less effort and ability because of being male. And anyone who doesn't like it is a bitch.

Well written and believable. Fast paced action with great technology based hardware used in the story. Interesting character back stories. Makes you want to listen to the next book in the series.

enjoyable enough story, and relatively cinematic/tense at the crucial moments! The writing of the female characters is pretty terrible though, there's a decent chunk of misogyny going on. All the female characters are introduced either as sex objects, a bitch or mum. This does improve later on in the book as the characters develop and become stronger. It could be argued it's because it's from the perspective of a newly graduated horny young man, who later sees the value of the women around him, but it'd be nice if at least one of the female characters was initially defined by something more than her sexual attractiveness. It doesn't have too many ridiculous science plot holes which is nice, obviously there's some but it's better than average, though I wish there was more variety between the technologies/cultures having been separated so long.

leaving this as review of the whole series. personally I liked the setting as a whole, though it dragged in places, and people did utterly stupid things at times. all in all if you like star treck this series is for you and this review applies to you to, trekkie

Very good story. The narration is also perfect. I didn't like the ending because it really leaves you hanging. I suppose that is to get you to continue the series. Which i am planning to do.

Catching storytelling, a space odyssey not unlike Star Trek, Recommendable

I love space adventures but I almost stopped reading this book because of how the women were characterized. Really it was a bit shocking in this day and age to hear men referring to intelligent, strong women as bitches. The conversation between two male characters about how easy it is to manipulate the woman who was responsible for creating the jump drive that basically saved everyone's buttt was a real head shaker. But boys will be boys right?

This series is wonderfull. I found the end of the last book in the series very satisfying!

A space adventure echoing Star Trek a bit although Aurora’s “jump drive” predates ST:Discovery’s “spore drive” which does the same job. Enjoyable story, likeable characters and the reader is an easy listen. I look forward to listening to the next book.
