Unabridged Audiobook
I love this book Jinger! She was honest and gracious and kind. In this book she tells of her experience under the false teacher Bill Gothard, how it influenced her life and struggles and beliefs, and what influenced her to change. Jinger doesn’t spend the book on telling all about her family. While she is honest about some things that happened within her family, her main focus is telling about her journey to Christ in order to speak out against Bill Gothard and to speak in honor and admiration of Jesus. Thanks to God, rather than losing or tossing her faith because of the harmful principles of Bill Gothard that ruled her life, she “disentangled” it from those rules and beliefs. She is not self-righteous, rather, humble about her own shortcomings and desires to help others caught in a legalistic-false-teaching environment. It’s a tough road but fear cannot prevail. Love this and proud of you Jinger. Thank you!
I was never in a cult like upbringing but I was taught God was a certain way and I am on a journey where God revealed so much to me that wasn't true, this book helped to open up so much more about Jesus and what I was taught to believe is not true. I enjoyed this book so much. And at the end when Jinger confirmed all this, because I was still sceptical, that her pastor is John MacArthur, I started crying and thanking God and the holy spirit for walking with me in this revelation journey
Having spent 30 years in a church that was strongly influenced by IBLP I can attest to everything she says regarding the affects these teachings have on you spiritually, emotionally and relationally. Then seeing the damage done to your children and their relationship with God is so devastating when you finally realize how un-Scriptural those beliefs are. The "disentangling" is tremendously difficult along with learning to trust other people and not see God as some "Whack-Mole" waiting to get you if you even think about getting out of line. She gives credit to those who have helped her to have a right view of God- I believe it is very beneficial to have someone guiding you through the potentially lengthy process. I do appreciate her clear statements that she loves her parents and had a happy childhood. Her negative comments regarding Bill Gothard are straight forward and express no vitriol at all.

She touched base on a lot of things that she went through. I appreciated her candor, but I felt that she had the need reiterate to often that this is her story and her truth and not to relate it to her other siblings.
Jinger pointed out verses to disentangle the bible from Gothard’s teachings which made sense to prove her point but I found this to be way too much, although it is about her story it felt so biblical and I think I wanted to hear more about her perspective and opinions. I found it hard to get through the book because of this

Jinger found a way to take responsibility for her beliefs growing up, rather than blame it all on her parents... something this generation struggles with. Coming out of an NAR church just prior to reading this book was incredibly confusing. I came away with an newfound understanding that the Bible never changes - people do. Understanding exegetical preaching v. i-xegetical will forever impact where we attend church. Cannot imagine how difficult this was to write. Well done, Jinger!
I loved how she talked about disentangling the errors of her childhood faith from the true parts of her childhood faith. And using the Word of God to determine which is which. Not throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I also appreciate how she continues to honor her parents and family, while moving away from teachings that she has determined are error and harmful.

Jinger could be an all time book reader for Audiobooks. Her voice is soothing and I was pulled in. Even more, the subject and her bravery were both something to respect highly.
