Summary
London, 1923. Newly minted research assistant Saffron Everleigh is the first woman to hold the position at University College of London. When she attends a dinner party for the school, she expects to engage in conversations about the university's large expedition to the Amazon. What she doesn’t expect is for Mrs. Henry, one of the professors’ wives, to drop to the floor, poisoned by an unknown toxin.

Dr. Maxwell, Saffron’s mentor, is the main suspect, and evidence quickly mounts. Joined by flirtatious fellow researcher Alexander Ashton, Saffron uses her knowledge of botany as she explores steamy greenhouses, dark gardens, and deadly poisons to clear Maxwell's name.

Will she be able to uncover the truth, or will her investigation land her on the murderer’s list?

In this entertaining examination of society’s expectations, debut author Kate Khavari deftly sheds a light on the struggles of women in a male-dominated field, wrapped in mystery and murder.

Dry and very slow.

I always enjoy a cozy, well-written historical whodunit, with believable characters and a researched setting. If you like it, too, you'll love this book.

Enjoyable listen, light plot, not much of a mystery. Narrator did an excellent job and kept my interest going.

This is a romance novel with a murder. I am not fond of romance novels.

Enjoyed this light murder-mystery with some romance worked in. I wonder if she will make this a series?!? Narrator was very good too.

Love the story and everything about it. I will say, this recording has terrible sound quality.

Picture a scientist, both nerdy and adventurous, as she is solving a murder in a historical who-dunnit with a university setting.

This is what my sister and I call a “cozy” book. Yes there’s a murder, there’s intrigue, but it is definitely part mystery, part romance. A delightful book that I thoroughly enjoyed!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun read/listen and I liked learning about all kinds of poisonous plants. The main characters are likeable even if a few dumb decisions were made. I'm interested to see where the author goes with the next book. Overall, a great read with a nice atmosphere :)
