Unabridged Audiobook
As long as John Grisham writes novels, Michael Beck needs to narrate them! His command of the southern dialect in all its nuances is absolutely amazing and helps carry this audio book through some pretty lengthy sidebars that otherwise might prove just a little bit tedious. Tracking the tale of two families that diverge from their origins on "The Point," it's something of a saga, but not without its certain attractions.
The narrator was territic his voice was just awesome he m
Great story and well done. Enjoyed. One of Grisham’s better books.
Another powerful Grisham that never disappoints. The narration was pitch on and there are twists and turns that I did not expect. I love every October knowing a new John Grisham novel waits for me!
Too long. Too boring. Way too much background before getting to the titled subject of the book. Not his best work.
This book was difficult for me. In the beginning, it was as if someone was reading a textbook to me. Very dry and informative. But the information was intriguing so I was compelled to continue. In short, the story has heft but good gracious, it’s not the most absorbingly written novel by John Grisham. It was like chewing a tough piece of meat to get the protein.
The narrator was excellent. The story line was begun and equally well developed. The subject matter was also quite interesting, a page out of Southern history that I was previously unaware of.
Really enjoyed this book.
Given that all Grisham novels are held to such an astronomically high standard of excellence, this book fails to hit that mark. It felt as though it was written as part of some contractual obligation to a publishing house to produce a certain number of books in a specific time frame. Nonetheless, it is still worth reading if for no other reason than to support this wonderful author in appreciation for his work.
My husband and I enjoyed listening to this book, waiting to see what happens to each of the characters
not his best: so many of his other books are better!
Great story and narrator
Well written and well narrated. I didnt miss a word, and the accented dialog was a major plus. The story kept my attention throughout.
Not his best.
Never read/listened to a Grisham book I didn't like, especially with Beck as narrator. Grisham's portrayal of deep south legal issues is always a unique insight into legal proceedings. The "justice" served by all sides is always unexpected even when the outcome is expected. This book is slightly different from other Grisham books as I would consider it historical fiction. Many things are true or considered real, while it is written into a fictional book. Well-written and very plausible. Beck is always an AMAZING narrator and portrays the southern voice excellently.
Not his best. Ok story. Not a great ending. Not very memorable.
Loved it from start to finish. I had read a book about the Dixie Mafia years ago and was so hoping they were included in this story.
First, let me say that I absolutely love John Grisham‘s books. And I’m slowly working my way through all of them. Michael Beck is one of the best narrators. It’s always a pleasure to hear his voice. I listen to a lot of books online and he is far and away, the narrator that I enjoy the most
I didn't like the style of narration. The book was too long with too many characters.
I liked the story. I really felt like I knew the characters. Sometimes in an audiobook it’s easy to loose track. Michael Beck is a great narrator!
I loved this one by Grisham. I believe this is his best since “A Time to Kill”. It is getting harder and harder for me to listen to a book by any other Narrator. Michael Beck is by far the best.
I enjoyed the book. The story kept my attention throughout the entire book.
I lived on the Miss Gulf Coast during that time period and the book was very factual. I really enjoyed and knew some of the people that Grisham used as references.
Took a long time introducing the characters and a long time getting to the meat of the story, but, once we got there, it was a good one.
Totally enjoyed this book. Well written and well narrated
Great listen
I had read a number of Grisham books in the past and this was the first in probably five years. I liked the story but I am from close to that part of the country so it was more meaningful to me. The narrator was pretty good with just enough Southern drawl.
It was okay. I am not sure why it was listed as a thriller. At times I thought it was a little boring and found myself drifting.
Not great. I found the narrative to be overly detailed in minutiae. It would have been genius as short stories then tied up with a bow at the end. Torture to finish but it’s Grisham.
Loved it. Kept my interest throughout its entirety.
Very long, detailed descriptions of minute detail into each character. From the beginning you could see how the characters were going to come together and I was waiting for the "twist" in the story. It never came. Very predictable, anti-climatic ending. Not up to Grisham standards. Had this not had the Grisham name on the book, I doubt it would have had the accolades it received from the New York Times. Makes me not want to trust their reviews going forward.
It took a while to get to the point. It seemed like there were a lot of moving parts to me. It was just okay.
As the story was unfolding, there were so many characters that it was difficUlt for me to keep everyone straight. As a resident of the panhandle of Florida, I found the story, albeit fiction, quite interesting.
Throughly enjoyed this book.
Great book, kept me interested throughout.
Great book. I love John Grishman legal drama genre. The narration was a little slow but it was fine once I sped up the playback just a little.
An excellent audio book. I listened to it on my daily walks. I had to do extra laps around the block so I could continue listening.
Author goes back-and-forth between two families. As the book progresses in a very slow fashion, adding more and more characters add side bars.
Very well done!
Enjoyed the book and narrator.
Great
There was no mystery or suspense at all. everything was foreseeable, and there were no surprise, developments or twists. This was the most predictable and least interesting of all the Grisham books that I have read.
Very very very long
Did not even finish book. Not sure where they got thriller out of this book. Wast of my credit.
love it!! want to hear more.
Always enjoy Grisham!
I listened for hours and never cared for one moment about a single character, never heard a phrase that made me think, “wow, what a writer”, never understood what the plot was and soon decided I didn’t dare enough to stick around to find out.
A Grisham novel that goes on forever yet interesting nevertheless. The narrator does an excellent portrayal of speaking in Southern tongue for the various characters.
it was very good
Interesting story well written.
Love this narrator, great voice and inflection.
Loved It!
I always appreciate JG’s attention to detail and this book had a lot of that. It also skipped quite a bit of detail and failed to build some characters enough. The storyline was disjointed at times and I think it could have built up toward a crescendo more, rather than finishing with a lot of afterthoughts and loose ends for the last two ours. All in all, kept me entertained and I’ll keep reading…just not just best.
great book
Great story and Michael Beck is just so good. Enjoyed this book tremendously!
Maybe my favorite Grisham of all time!
Good book
The first seven hours were long hardly interesting. End of the book was somewhat better though 17 hours of this was far too much for me. I like his writings generally but this did not appeal to me.
Grissom is brilliant as usual.. the Narrator was over the top great.. He added a lot of depth to his narration
Excellent characters and story. Keeps you interested until the end.
Great narration.
Great narration to a good and compelling story
Excellent
Not interesting to me. Period.
The narration of this book made it extremely difficult from me to listen to. I kept stopping the playback after listening for only a few minutes. Finally gave up and read the book.
I liked this book, especially because it combines many of my favorite elements of John Grisham's books. Courtroom drama, coming of age, suspense, and an ending that drew things together well. My only comment is that this book seems to have less of one specific plot, and rather is just about the lives, interactions and entanglement of two families. There are many subplots in the book but not one "big thing", like most of Grisham's books. Either way, I enjoyed it. Michael Beck is incredible as usual.
One of Grisham’s best. Good plot and character development.
John doing what John does best.. entertaining story telling. And letting the rest of the world in on the southern states ways
It’s about the third book in a row that the author is going thru the motions , very sad.
Really good . Always narrated great.
