Summary
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Two families. One courtroom showdown. • John Grisham’s most gripping thriller yet. • “A legal literary legend.” —USA Today

John Grisham returns to Mississippi with the riveting story of two sons of immigrant families who grow up as friends, but ultimately find themselves on opposite sides of the law. Grisham’s trademark twists and turns will keep you tearing through the pages until the stunning conclusion.

For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

Keith Rudy and Hugh Malco grew up in Biloxi in the sixties and were childhood friends, as well as Little League all-stars. But as teenagers, their lives took them in different directions. Keith’s father became a legendary prosecutor, determined to “clean up the Coast.” Hugh’s father became the “Boss” of Biloxi’s criminal underground. Keith went to law school and followed in his father’s footsteps. Hugh preferred the nightlife and worked in his father’s clubs. The two families were headed for a showdown, one that would happen in a courtroom.

Life itself hangs in the balance in The Boys from Biloxi, a sweeping saga rich with history and with a large cast of unforgettable characters.

Another powerful Grisham that never disappoints. The narration was pitch on and there are twists and turns that I did not expect. I love every October knowing a new John Grisham novel waits for me!

I had read a number of Grisham books in the past and this was the first in probably five years. I liked the story but I am from close to that part of the country so it was more meaningful to me. The narrator was pretty good with just enough Southern drawl.

It was okay. I am not sure why it was listed as a thriller. At times I thought it was a little boring and found myself drifting.

Not great. I found the narrative to be overly detailed in minutiae. It would have been genius as short stories then tied up with a bow at the end. Torture to finish but it’s Grisham.

Loved it. Kept my interest throughout its entirety.

Very long, detailed descriptions of minute detail into each character. From the beginning you could see how the characters were going to come together and I was waiting for the "twist" in the story. It never came. Very predictable, anti-climatic ending. Not up to Grisham standards. Had this not had the Grisham name on the book, I doubt it would have had the accolades it received from the New York Times. Makes me not want to trust their reviews going forward.

It took a while to get to the point. It seemed like there were a lot of moving parts to me. It was just okay.

As the story was unfolding, there were so many characters that it was difficUlt for me to keep everyone straight. As a resident of the panhandle of Florida, I found the story, albeit fiction, quite interesting.

Great book. I love John Grishman legal drama genre. The narration was a little slow but it was fine once I sped up the playback just a little.

An excellent audio book. I listened to it on my daily walks. I had to do extra laps around the block so I could continue listening.

Author goes back-and-forth between two families. As the book progresses in a very slow fashion, adding more and more characters add side bars.

There was no mystery or suspense at all. everything was foreseeable, and there were no surprise, developments or twists. This was the most predictable and least interesting of all the Grisham books that I have read.

I listened for hours and never cared for one moment about a single character, never heard a phrase that made me think, “wow, what a writer”, never understood what the plot was and soon decided I didn’t dare enough to stick around to find out.

A Grisham novel that goes on forever yet interesting nevertheless. The narrator does an excellent portrayal of speaking in Southern tongue for the various characters.

I always appreciate JG’s attention to detail and this book had a lot of that. It also skipped quite a bit of detail and failed to build some characters enough. The storyline was disjointed at times and I think it could have built up toward a crescendo more, rather than finishing with a lot of afterthoughts and loose ends for the last two ours. All in all, kept me entertained and I’ll keep reading…just not just best.

The first seven hours were long hardly interesting. End of the book was somewhat better though 17 hours of this was far too much for me. I like his writings generally but this did not appeal to me.

The narration of this book made it extremely difficult from me to listen to. I kept stopping the playback after listening for only a few minutes. Finally gave up and read the book.

I liked this book, especially because it combines many of my favorite elements of John Grisham's books. Courtroom drama, coming of age, suspense, and an ending that drew things together well. My only comment is that this book seems to have less of one specific plot, and rather is just about the lives, interactions and entanglement of two families. There are many subplots in the book but not one "big thing", like most of Grisham's books. Either way, I enjoyed it. Michael Beck is incredible as usual.

It’s about the third book in a row that the author is going thru the motions , very sad.
