Summary
This expanded edition features a new bonus chapter where Stasi answers the top Captivating questions.

Every little girl has dreams of being swept up into a great adventure, of being the beautiful princess. Sadly, when women grow up, they are often swept up into a life filled merely with duty and demands. Many Christian women are tired, struggling under the weight of the pressure to be a 'good servant,' a nurturing caregiver, or a capable home manager.

What Wild at Heart did for men, Captivating is doing for women. Setting their hearts free. This groundbreaking book shows readers the glorious design of women before the fall, describes how the feminine heart can be restored, and casts a vision for the power, freedom, and beauty of a woman released to be all she was meant to be. By revealing the core desires every woman shares-to be romanced, to play an irreplaceable role in a grand adventure, and to unveil beauty-John and Stasi Eldredge invite women to recover their feminine hearts, created in the image of an intimate and passionate God. Further, they encourage men to discover the secret of a woman's soul and to delight in the beauty and strength women were created to offer.

I thought it was fantastic - I love how the content every so often unexpectedly struck a nerve or created a light bulb moment... overall it left me with much to think about and reflect on, to the point that I would have to listen to it again! And unlike several comments below, I did not find it narrated in an offensive or annoying manner, she added character and emotion to keep one's attention. Only recommendation would be to use a male voice as well to cover the 'John' bits for clarity.

I listened to it at 1.5x after the voice reviews (no one likes a whiny victim voice!) The edits are beautifully done. I'm still sad that it is abridged, as the full length book has more clarity on how to handle oppositions (whether those are the mental strongholds of shame, depression, and guilt, or outright spiritual attack). This one made it feel very open-ended. I like closure, but our world doesn't always come tied up in a nice bow. Aside from that, her personal experiences are refreshingly transparent, and I hope anyone who reads this uses discernment in knowing what is scripture and what is feeling. (though it is fairly obvious). One caviat: John also writes parts of this book, but his bits are not announced. That can get confusing!

Wild at heart for the men was much better. This one seemed to lack meat. Still okay but, not closed to Wild at Heart. I recommend that to everyone not Just men.

I couldn't finish this book. Victim, victim, victim...I expected a more positive message.

How do you say this? I wanted so badly for this book to be awesome, but in my heart I know it was not. It is good. What is said is sound, but it didn't WOW me.

While I agree that the quivering voice was a bit distracting, the content was well worth listening. I would highly recommend Captivating -- I personally found it very insightful and relevant.

Voice on audio was too desperate. I know the author feels the information is important to her audience, I agree to some extent, but the pleading voice quickly became annoying. Womens role, understanding of self and men very good.Too much devil stuff. Many people could become confused and start looking for demons under every rock. I Did learn more about how God views women and our role in the world.
