Kevin Kwan, bestselling author of Crazy Rich Asians, is back with a wickedly funny new novel of social climbing, secret e-mails, art-world scandal, lovesick billionaires, and the outrageous story of what happens when Rachel Chu, engaged to marry Asia's most eligible bachelor, discovers her birthfather.
On the eve of her wedding to Nicholas Young, heir to one of the greatest fortunes in Asia, Rachel should be over the moon. She has a flawless Asscher-cut diamond from JAR, a wedding dress she loves more than anything found in the salons of Paris, and a fiancé willing to sacrifice his entire inheritance in order to marry her. But Rachel still mourns the fact that her birthfather, a man she never knew, won't be able to walk her down the aisle. Until: a shocking revelation draws Rachel into a world of Shanghai splendor beyond anything she has ever imagined. Here we meet Carlton, a Ferrari-crashing bad boy known for Prince Harry-like antics; Colette, a celebrity girlfriend chased by fevered paparazzi; and the man Rachel has spent her entire life waiting to meet: her father. Meanwhile, Singapore's It Girl, Astrid Leong, is shocked to discover that there is a downside to having a newly minted tech billionaire husband. A romp through Asia's most exclusive clubs, auction houses, and estates, China Rich Girlfriend brings us into the elite circles of Mainland China, introducing a captivating cast of characters, and offering an inside glimpse at what it's like to be gloriously, crazily, China-rich.

Great sequel to the first book. Continued to develop characters from the first book, but also introduced new characters. Many pages dedicated to descriptions of Asian food and designer clothes. The narrator of the first book in the series is much better than the narrator in the latter two books of the series.

Narrator much better in first book. Made Rachel sound like an idiot.

Love this series but I must say the narrator for the first book is so much better and it took me a long time to get used to this narrator since I wanted to hear the characters the way I had heard them in the first book. Nonetheless great writing

It took me a bit to get into this series. I wasn’t immediately enthralled by the plot. I found the characters lacking and very empty and ostentatious. I was bored to say the least.

I almost gave up on this book because I was so confused at the beginning but omg I got HOOKED! I didn’t stop listening to it until it ended and now I’m listening to the third book. This book was so wonderful and had funny, dramatic and sad moments. When I heard about Charlie and Astrid, my heart melted and I cried. I cannot wait to finish the 3rd book. The narrator for Rachel is kind of off though because Rachel is more serious than how she presented her. But content is still awesome!

Love this book so much! The story is hilarious and entertaining and the characters are very well-developed. On a recent road trip, I found myself reacting out-loud to some of their choices. Particularly Eleanor, that woman is a piece of work lol. My only issue is with the narrator. She mispronounces words (like Baratheon) and uses ridiculous accents that do not fit the characters in any way (at one point even managing to sound like an American southerner). They could have done better. I just wish narrators would put more thought into the voices they choose for characters. This was disappointing.

My review is an echo of many others’ in that I much preferred the reader of the first book to this one and agree that Rache’s “voice” is pretty distractingly bad. I am enjoying the character development and the examples of ostentatiousness are so over the top in this book they are hardly believable! Wow! I am rushing through it and looking forward to the 3rd book in the series.

This book opened my eyes to the outrageously rich of mainland China! The author upped the ante in drama with all the plots and interesting twists! I enjoyed listening to this book during my daily commute. The narrator also did a great job.

The book was ok compared to the first book. It only got good towards the end. The like the first narrator from the first book compared to the 2nd. She sounds fake and autotune to hide her accent for Rachel. It wasn’t authentic but her Chinese tongue was good. Besides that it was ok, a good read but ok. Can’t wait for the next book.

*THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS* I enjoyed Kevin Kwan's "China Rich Girlfriend" read by Lydia Look. It was not the laugh-fest "Crazy Rich Asians" was, but it was richer in character development and I like that. Rachel and Nick Young get married, but it seems like almost every other romantic relationship falls apart. Rachel and Nick fly to China to meet Rachel's father and his family, but there are problems. The wealth of Singapore is amazing but to be China rich is staggering--and dangerous. Pay close attention to Kitty Pong's story as it ends up weaving in and out of other's. Astrid's story is not over either. Stay tuned for book 3, out in 2017.

This was a nice sequel to Crazy Rich Asians as it allowed the readers to see Rachel and Nick get married. I did appreciate the translations of the Malay, Singaporean and Chinese terms used in the dialogue. I think if the previous book/narrator had done so, I would have enjoyed Crazy Rich Asians that much more. Unfortunately, this book did lack the charisma that was so prevalent in the first. I do wish we had discovered what Nick's grandmother would do or say about their marriage. Her point of view and character development would have made the story much more Rich. The narrator did not do as good of a job as the narrator for Crazy Rich Asians. I easily got lost especially when there were multiple women speaking. Hopefully, the author will continue to write about these characters and the next book will have the narrator from the first book.
