Unabridged Audiobook
Great listen , tale of a brilliant physician who is color blind and comes to USA & is confronted with racism , as well as greed & power of NFL. Highlights the length NFL will go to in order to protect its self interest---money ! The book is about the fascinating life of Dr. Omalu-Bennet, his discovery of CTE and numerous efforts to discredit him & ignore his research &/or efforts of others to lay claim to his research & profit from this. Also shows lengths FBI took on behalf of NFL to protect NFL & its greed .
A great book with superb narration. I saw the movie but this adds so much more detail. I likely will listen to it a second time. The historical part about Nigeria is most interesting. I highly recommend this audiobook.
The subject story is very riveting. My major complaint with this book is that it takes so long to get to the real topic. We are 3 hours into it before we actually get to the topic of football and concussions. I get that Dr. Omalu came from very tough circumstances surrounding his upbringing in Nigeria and that informs the narrative of his eventual struggle with advancing the fight with CTE, but I really do not need a whole long chapter devoted to the issues and politics surrounding the Nigerian civil war of the 60's and his father's experience during that period. The narrator does a very good job evoking the voice of Dr. Omalu, but there is too much fluff in this book and if I were reading it, I would have put it down long before I got to the real story.
A very eye opening story of good man fighting his way towards the truth behind the dangers of high impact sports.
