Unabridged Audiobook
Narrator is awful. I literally can’t listen to it, he’s completely out of sync. Painful.
I was so disappointed with this reading. The recording was from 2005, and the quality of the audio clearly reflects that. It sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom. Given how old the recording is, I can let that go. But wow did this narrator turn a great book into something incredibly boring. The narrator really needs to read up on how sarcastic Twain was - because all of that is lost on him. I don't know if this is a Librebooks thing, but repeating that it is a LibreBook recording at the end of every chapter is REALLY annoying. As for the book itself, I read this in high school. You're going to miss a lot if you decide on this reading. Find another. If you insist on this one, play it at 1.4x so you can get through it faster.
This was an interesting book. If you are going to tackle it, be warned that it goes into minute detail in order to better describe the writer's perceptions of life and thoughts during the set time. As well it is best to keep in mind the period of the writing itself. The concept and depiction of the arthurian era is humorous when contrasted with the myth but this is no way comedy. The narrator shows he is capable of imbuing this work with life and character in parts, but has generally kept to a fairly flat cadence in order to, I believe, further stress the storytellers ennui in face of the lack of intellectual stimulation he encounters in those around him.
