Unabridged Audiobook
Having lost my mother recently, this story really resonated with me. Loved the complicated story of a mother and her daughter intertwined with her descriptions of food and it’s importance in her life.
A true coming of age story. Though I did not relate much to the author, I saw so much of my own Asian mother and the ways she expressed love to me reflected in this book. I felt the book was a bit of a paradox. At times I felt like I was reading someone’s journal and it wasn’t written for anyone else to be reading it. But I craved more exploration of her thoughts and feelings. Despite wanting her to dig deeper, I did note that the author has a gift with words! Her storytelling is like poetry.
This book is for everyone, but especially if you have a good, or even troubled, mother daughter relationship. I couldn’t wait to get back to this book. I cried with the author. I felt her story telling was perfect and so relatable and human…and I spent many hours thinking about my own relationship with my mother. It also made me want all the Korean food she described so beautifully. Brava
beautifully written and narrated
heartbreaking and moving. it brought me to tears
I relate to this book heavily. Great read!
Heart wrenching and important story, beautifully narrated by the author herself. My mother is still living and I am so inspired to heal our relationship before it's too late.
It has been a few months since i listened to this book, i still find myself thinking about Michelle and how she is doing.
A delicate story powerfully told
A beautiful and painful account of loss, caregiving and personal growth.
