Devil's Cub is read by Michael Maloney, who appears in Coronation Street and The Trial of Christine Keller.

Mary Challoner must protect her sister at all costs.

When she discovers that the notorious Marquis of Vidal is planning to run away with her little sister, Mary will not stand idly by.

To save Sophia's reputation without destroying her own, Mary will take her sister's place - and once the Marquis sees through her disguise, he will be humiliated and forced to return her home.

But the irresistible Marquis is a wilder rake than even Mary anticipated, and her growing feelings for him are proving an unexpected complication...

The book has long been a favorite of Heyerites--and with good reason. Michael Maloney's performs THE DEVIL'S CUB with brio and great good humor. Those searching for straight narration will perhaps find his approach overbearing--it is not. It is done fulsomely with each character well delineated. It's true that he does not perform Vidal's mother, Leonie, with a French accent. While a bit disappointing, it's not intrusive and doesn't at all distract from the story. I highly recommend this audio performance of the book. Mr. Maloney is so persuasive that, as with the compulsion to read the book far into the night, one really doesn't want to stop listening to him. SAFETY NOTE: Don't do anything that demands your full focus as this WILL distract you. It's the perfect treat after a full day's work.

Loved hearing this wonderful story on audio. Michael Maloney does a great job with the story and his rendition of Lord Rupert is absolutely superb! A perfect accent and he gets across all of the wit and hilarity in the latter part of the story. The final chapters are especially satisfying with Mary and the Duke's encounter brilliantly acted. My only disappointment was Leonie's voice as there was no trace of the French accent which Heyer tells us she still had even after 25 years of marriage. A great novel and I loved hearing it read aloud. Will definitely listen again and recommend this book.
