Absolute genius. The Great American Novel has been written and East of Eden is it!

I LOVE loved this narrator. The book is awesome and amazing… Steinbeck is a genius. But the narrator made it all that much better he was amazing.

I enjoyed re-reading this classic. Exceptional writing with a fine narrator.

Steinbeck captured the souls of his characters by peeling back the imperfections to give them meaning in light of the same people’s virtuousness. I’m amazed at how well he was able to describe the motivations and misunderstandings of people.

Maybe it’s the narrator, but I can’t get into this book. I have tried multiple times and continuously lose interest. I saw someone else say they sped up the narration, so maybe I will try that. So far I haven’t even actually finished it in over 2 years.

Disappointing with all the hype ("Steinbeck's greatest novel", "the great American novel", etc.). Yes, it is the longest, but not his best. A good story teller but too much rambling. The narrator (when listening at 1.5 speed) sounded eerily like Robert Preston's Music Man (not that that's a bad thing).

One of the best reads ever! By the end of the book I felt like the characters were family members, and like family, some favorites and some not so favorite. One of the best narrations

"East of Eden" is extremely long, but the story is so engaging that it is a pleasure to listen to. I read the book many years ago and my book club chose it for this month. I could not give the time to re-read it but I was surprised at how much of the story came back to me as I listened. It is known as a Classic for a reason - it is well-written, sprawling (without losing its direction) and a book that one thinks about after it is finished. I do not think it is as good, though, as Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath" - something that I believe we shall all be reliving once climate change impinges more and more on our existence in terms of space and resources. The narration on "East of Eden" was excellent. Highly recommended.

The book proved to be captivating and engaging, holding my interest throughout. However, its portrayal of outdated social norms, particularly the lack of respect for women, significantly detracted from the overall reading experience. Overall good read, just have to keep in mind that the world was very different in 1952 when the book was published.

Wonderful read. I hadn’t read a Steinbeck novel since Grapes of Wrath in high school. The stories in East of Eden are fantastic and the symbolism is great. The continues weaving of the Cain and Abel story throughout generations is well done. I would highly recommend East of Eden!

Really enjoyed this classic by John Steinbeck. His writing helps one connect with humanity, even if it's a part of humanity one is not familiar with

One of the best ....maybe the best for me. The writing was crisp...for lack of a better word...and straight forward. The reading was seamless. Not what I expected. So much better. Explained to me why I like the cave so much. John Steinbeck is an explainer of life and the why of it.

Second time reading this book, but it's one of the most incredible books ever written. The narator does an awesome job and makes to book very entertaining to listen to.

Absolutely loved this book. The narrator was fantastic. The book itself did have some long, narrative places, but if you can get through those, it will be well worth it. I started reading this book, but I ended up liking to listen to it much better.

Brilliant. The review feature of audiobooks.com requires 50 characters, while the word "brilliant" sums it all up. Brevity has its place when it comes to criticism.

Narrators worked for me! Captured the essence of the story precisely! I had to quit cleaning

Finally realized that the problem with this book is the narrator. He is very difficult to listen to over all of these hours to get through the unabridged version. Still worth a listen.

Absolutely enthralling!! Had always meant to read this book. Probably one of the best books I have ever "read". A real page turner (I know I was listening to it but you know what I mean). Richard Poe is incredible. I did not want to do anything except listen to this book! It is 25 hrs but worth every minute. The story is hopeful and touchng, tragic and sad. NOBODY writes like Steinbeck...
