Summary
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER AND THE PERFECT HOLIDAY GIFT

A Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick

“Beautifully written and incredibly funny, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is about the importance of friendship and human connection. I fell in love with Eleanor, an eccentric and regimented loner whose life beautifully unfolds after a chance encounter with a stranger; I think you will fall in love, too!” —Reese Witherspoon

No one’s ever told Eleanor that life should be better than fine.

Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she’s thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy.

But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond’s big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one.

Soon to be a major motion picture produced by Reese Witherspoon, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is the smart, warm, and uplifting story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey as she realizes. . .

The only way to survive is to open your heart.

I wish I could express my admiration for this book, with half the eloquence with which it was written. By turn savage, heartbreaking, chilling, and then uplifting in its portraits of we humans, in our kindness and cruelty. Some heroes wear baggy jeans and trainers, and I thank God for them. The surprise at the end took me aback, but no spoilers. This book is beautifully suited to the audiobook format.

Heartbreaking, funny, and hopeful? Yes, all three. What a fantastic survivor Eleanor is.Everyone should have a pal like a Raymond, too.

Slow start, then very enjoyable! Excellent narration. Definitely worth that kind of missing the book now that it’s over. Give it a try.

Hands down the best book ever. Her keen witty phrasings had me laughing out loud. I wrote a few down for myself to memorize and use at the appropriate moment. My book clubs number one favorite book.

COMPLETELY DRY I kept seeing reviews for this book and it was a recommended book amongst my book club so i thought why not, however I didn't really think this book was good read. I understand the message it was portraying yet the story was a bit dry. The author could of talked about the deranged mother more, to show Eleanor's survival and mainframe after dealing with her mothers failed attempt yo kill her and the death of her sister. The after affects of the foster homes and living alone after trauma. there's so many ways or directions that could have been taken to show a clearer picture and to make the story more enjoyable. oh well, can't get that time back, on to the next one. #book23of2019 #bookworm #whatsnext

Gail Honeyman takes an interesting approach to sharing the life of someone suffering from mental illness. From the beginning I though Eleanor could have been a character from a Frederic Bachman novel, with some of thé eccentricities of people we meet in our lives (if not ourselves). As the story develops, we are brought inside her head and we gradually learn of the trauma that has shaped her. The story is filled with rich characters and real life twists. Wonderfully written

Mind numbingly boring. I wouldn’t have finished it if it weren’t for my book club. Not sure how so many people enjoyed it.

This book was really hard to finish. Easy to put down and hardly ever exciting. The narrator was great and depicted the character well, however I found myself bored through nearly the entire book.

I adored this sweet book of unexpected friendships and self discovery. It seamlessly walked into uncomfortable depths that brought me into an understanding of the different ways people go about life in order to protect themselves, emotionally, from their past. This was such a wonderful listen. I pray that the movie doesn't diminish this wonderful book.

Unsentimental look at childhood trauma and the need for human interaction as a remedy for healing. Characters slightly exaggerated but lovely to know over the course of the story.

Loved this book. A great story of how friendship can bring you the help and strength you never knew you needed. Wonderfully written both heartbreaking and hilarious in equal measures.

I found the book dragging & depressing. I think I understand what the author was trying to do, but this was unrealistic - especially the final plot twist. If it was not for the great narration, I would have never bothered to finish the book

Eleanor Oliphant is much, much better than fine. This is one of the best books I have listened to or read in quite some time. I had a hard time putting it down once I started to get into it, and may actually listen to it again. It is impossible not to love socially awkward, overly honest Eleanor. And everyone on Earth should have a Raymond in their life.

At first it was slow, but after you get a sense of Eleanor's quirky personality and feel almost sorry for her. More things are revealed in the story and you can't help but to like her more and more. You later on discover more about her life and empathize with her. The narrator does such a great job with the characters! Thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Oh goodness this book was wonderful. Still drying my tears for Eleanors victories and her friends’ compassion. It was slow to start and the characters gruff personality was off putting, but as the story unfolds, you realize why she behaves the way she does. The narrator has such a beautiful voice and cadence. I will be listening to this book again.

This is win of the best books I’ve read this year! I loved the narrator, she did an amazing job and in fact was more fun to read on audiobook because of her. This book made me laugh, cry and be more emphatic to humans. Can’t recommend it enough!

In the beginning of this book, I didn’t think I would like the main character or the storyline. I was totally wrong! I stayed with it and was quickly hooked! Some of Eleanor’s descriptions made me laugh out loud. I really hated to reach the end of this charming, thoughtful, quirky novel. I hope the move gets made!

This book came highly recommended, but it took me a while to get into it. The protagonist isn’t immediately likable, which is no doubt intentional. By the end of the book, I didn’t want it to end. Heartbreaking, funny, romantic, and filled with hope all at once. Stick with her, she’s worth knowing!

Amusing. Heartwarming. Incredibly sad at times but mainly because it’s very realistic in its portrayal of loneliness and loss. For probably the first 10 chapters I kept thinking, “what in the world am I reading?!? Why have so many people made such a fuss over this book??” But I’m so glad I kept reading the finished it. SO so good. Loved it

One of the best books I have ever listened to...Cathleen, the reader of this audiobook, made Eleanor's complex life come to life. And Gail Honeyman has my respect for being a gifted author! Eleanor Oliphant is a survivor I will never forget. And I will also never forget Eleanor Oliphant because she is, more than she has ever understood, a very very likable person! Thank you Gail Honeyman, for taking the time to write this important and touching book!

I see Emily Blunt and Chris O’Dowd as the main characters in this movie. I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did. I kept seeing it on the best sellers list so I decided to jump in and see what it was all about. I’m so glad that I did. I empathized with Eleanor as soon as I met her. Her insecurities and foibles were very relatable, as were her though processes. We’ve all sounded like her at one time or another. As the story progresses and we learn more about her, she is endearing as she perseveres while struggling to make sense of it all. This story really touched me and shows that we are all human with different life experiences. What we make of them says a lot about who we really are. Excellent book!

Very, very slow start. Almost gave up several times. Story was so-so. Wanted more from the ending. Can’t imagine this making it to the big screen - especially with Reese Witherspoon. Narration was a bit annoying. Looking forward to a book with no British accents.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator, Cathleen McCarron, was fabulous! 5 stars! The storytelling was compelling and the characters well drawn. I laughed, felt teary, got chills, and was often on the edge of my (car) seat in anticipation of what was going to be revealed next. 5 stars. Somehow though, there were parts of the story and of the characters that didn’t quite ring true. I heard myself saying, “Really?” even though I “really” fought feeling that way. 3 stars. All and all a very enjoyable and worthwhile listen. 4 stars.

Loved the narration and the story! I love the eloquent way in which Eleanor spoke - I've been imitating her for days! If I could add another chapter, Eleanor and Raymond would fall in love and get married and she would not try to change him but rather except his habits that she was dis-pleased with as part of the man she loved, and perhaps they would have a baby girl and name her Mary Ann!
