Unabridged Audiobook
the narrator sounds like she has a bad cold or allergies so all of her wheezing and mouth breathing is REALLY distracting
Definitely the best book I’ve listened to for a long time. Great story. I CANNOT wait until fall for the next book.
Despite the obnoxiously immature “adult” main characters who behaves like a boy-crazy pre-teens, and the ham-fisted attempts at romance and erotica, the parts of the story about a physically disabled woman fighting to survive training to be a dragon rider was fun. It requires some significant suspension of disbelief and isn’t exactly treading new ground plot wise—if you’ve read Anne McCaffrey’s dragon rider series, Naomi Novik’s Scholomance, and A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sara J Maas, you’ve seen most of what Fourth Wing had to offer. It was enjoyable enough to finish though, and I may read the next book in the series if I’m in the mood for some YA Romantasy dressing up like adult political fantasy. I did not like the audiobook narration at all. The narrator’s voice is nasally and grating (she occasionally sniffles and slurps snot) and all of the male human and dragon voices sound identical to each other and ridiculous.
I honestly love everything about this book and I'm now in a book slump.
My favorite fantasy book in a long time.
I should have realized from the description this was a young adult book. The adolescent sexual fantasies are a bit much. I am sorry I used my credit for this one.
This book is absolutely addicting! I got the same rush I felt when I first read The Hunger Games (my favorite series, which might be in trouble for my #1 spot by this series). I loved this world, the characters, and how easy it was to fall into their lives. Rebecca Yarros definitely has a gift I will be following for years to come
I honestly found this book unnecessarily long and the storyline felt lacking and a tad immature
Her obsession for the male protagonist is excessive and exhausting. I challenge anyone to count the amount of times she makes a remark on the physical appearance of the classic dark, troubled, afraid to talk about his feelings dude.
Author couldn’t decide between wanting to tell a teenage soft porn romance novel or a sci-fi fantasy novel
Extremely poor story, hard to follow. Narrator OK
Pleasingly deserving of the hype, I genuinely struggled to put it down, 10/10 and would truthfully recommend it to practically everyone.
I fangirled, I gasped, I cried and I screamed. I see why everyone's lost their minds over this book.
I love this book so much
Narrator sounded like she had the flu. It’s quite off putting but the book was absolutely amazing. Have already purchased the second
It's very interesting . It's an imagination book very explosive and romantic.
Love this!
My first Audio book and I absolutely love it, the Narrator is amazing, highly highly recommend this audio book
I enjoyed my time reading Fourth Wing very much! I’m not obsessed with it like so many people, I think because all the hype I expected something more. But with that being said I loved the adventure, the banter between Violent and Xaden was phenomenal and of course I adored the dragons. I liked this story so much and I honestly cannot wait to read Iron Flame to find out how the story continues.
the narrator does not fit the character not the story, she sound like she’s either pissed throughout the entire book or just doesn’t understand how to express emotions as the reads
While the plot was somewhat predictable by anyone who reads YA/ fantasy/ dystopia, it was well written and a great read. I loved the end and can't wait for the next book!
I am obsessed with this book but am so glad I read it before listening to it. Any narrator would have been better then this one.
This is my second time listening to this book. 10 out of 10. I can not wait until GA Iron Flame comes out next month!
Such amazing writing and storytelling. I loved this book and could not put it down. Beautiful narration and enthralling plot.
this book is so good
Not my cup of tea. I tried to finish aoooo many times, but I got stuck half way through
ending was abrupt but very exciting
At first I was not too interested as I don't usually read these types of novels about dragons and mythical creatures. But the more I got into the book the more I actually like it. So much so that I have now started on Iron Flame. It has made my bad traffic for the past week feel painless. I actually enjoy sitting in bumper to bumper while listening to the book :)
I loved this book (the audiobook...haven't read the physical book YET) from the moment it started. I gave it 4 stars for the many of the same reasons others complained about....but there too many positives to out-weigh the negatives for me. I loved the story, I actually thought the narration was dynamic and fun to listen too despite a few issues. I've heard some pretty flat and boring narrators that nearly ruined the books I loved, but she entertained me the whole time!
Incredible story! The mystery of the males voice at the end begs for me to read the next book!
It’s long. Like REALLY long, and jam packed with so much information there’s no way you’ll remember it all. It’s good, not at all boring but, sheesh!!
Loved this book so much!
Loved it, it was keeping me on my toes from the very beginning till the end!
I haven't opened a book in close to 10 years. and this book reminded me why I enjoyed reading. I absolutely love this story.
Awesome book! I was so glad I had the second book to start!
Nice story
Couldn’t finish this one. Great premise, unfortunately not for me.
absolutely amazing
I think this is a really good book. Great story and characters. If I had to be critical, I would like to have seen more character development with side characters and slightly less teenage girl romance scenes. but again, overall, it's really good.
Great story line amazing characters but the narrator sounded like she had a bad cold and also had random door opening and clanging in the background which was distracting but other than that it was a great book
I loved it. The surprises don’t stop. There are a few extra spicy scenes that I thought were a bit much but this isn’t a teen book. Can’t wait for the next one!
I was skeptical at first, but the story drew me in. It's like if other popular series like HP, HG, and GOT had mingled together and had a baby, it would be this dragon series.
I highly recommend this book, incredible story line and book in a genre that I normally don’t listen too. What was truly amazing was the narrator Rebecca S. She was the best loved listening to her
I loved it. Couldn't stop listening to it.
Absolutely loved
loved the twists and turns. Very much enjoyed the slow burn
It’s been a long time I’ve been interested in a book as I’m a very visual person but wow did I love this
Not bad, rather slow-paced, but still interesting, throughout, even if in some instances, it’s only mildly. Overall, I got mostly into this, and towards the end, it got my emotions a bit riled up. Well done. (Frankly, my favorite dragonrider story remains A.J. Flowers’s Dragonrider Academy—Fourth Wing is good, but overhyped, IMO.)
This book was recommended by several friends. I liked it but I guess not as much as the ones that recommended it.
I was recommended this book by a friend. It did not disappoint. It’s crying out for a film to be made, story of relationship, power, love and action…with a few twists. Well worth a listen!
The book is awesome but the way it was read, brought it even more to life. I really like how she read faster during the action scenes or when emotions are heightened. I thoroughly enjoyed the audio.
Super good book, really worth listening
Best book of 2023
Incredible.
I read the book then listened. I didn’t love the narration and probably wouldn’t listen to the next one, preferring to read instead. It’s tough to have one narrator for multiple characters, especially when one is a dragon.
I loved this book! I read it first then listened to it and loved it just as much if not more the second time! However not a fan of the narrator. At times there are long pauses in midst of continuous conversation, she doesn’t distinct the narration from Violet speaking so it’s hard to tell sometimes, she doesn’t do the best at differentiating different characters and sometimes doesn’t at all. It can be choppy at times and you can hear her clicking sometimes. Also sounds like she has a cold towards the end of the book. There were times where her narration just didn’t match the emotions of the story and she was almost monotone or just not enough emotion coming through. I hope they choose a different narrator for the next book. Also Teddy Hamilton trying to do a girly voice was HILARIOUS. I wish they would have done it as a duet style where Teddy voiced the men and she voiced the women. I feel like that might have made the audiobook better.
This is what nostalgic romantasy readers undeniably crave. I resisted this story as long as I could muster. The sheer amount of love Fourth Wing has received across so many different platforms left this reader with serious FOMO. Violet Sorrengail has been studying her entire life to become a scribe, like her late father. However, her mother has other plans for Violet. Violet now must cross the parapet into the riders quadrant despite the likelyhood of her inevitable demise. Everyone believes Violet to be too weak and "fragile" to live through training, including her famous sister Mara. I have been avoiding young female MCs as of late due to a lot of indecisive personalities that seem to be present within the romantasy genre. I was pleased not to have many instances of odium for Violet. The author was able to portray Violet as young but thoughtful rather than abhorrently confused as I have grown accustomed to seeing. Fourth Wing hits hard with the Romeo and Juliet and forbidden love vibes. We all enjoy an enemies to lovers trope, and Yarros barely makes the reader question where Violets loyalties lie. Xaden is the epitome of a misunderstood "bad boy". Part of where my frustration lies with this book is the lack of suprise. The foreshadowing is strong and easy to pick up on, especially if you've ever read other best sellers like Twilight or ACOTAR. Another reason I found this story difficult to enjoy more, personally, was the unnatural lust and forced attraction between Violet and Xaden. I felt more sparks in other relationships Violet had and was shipping side characters, even though I knew it was never a possibility. Kind of like Rachel and Joey. As for the Narrator's portrayals, I found it difficult to differentiate the characters in many areas. I had to pick up a physical copy to know whether certain people were in thought or actually speaking or which character was speaking. The audio did skip quite a bit on this platform, and I am unsure if it was the app or the recording that was the problem. I land in the middle in terms of how much I enjoyed the book. There is a lot to like about Fourth Wing, dragons and magic and tension. There are also areas I would have liked to be more refined. I look forward to see if theres any more twists in the remainder of the series.
This is my top rated book of the year! loved it and wouldn't change a thing.
great narrative and kept me totally interested
The romantic storyline is somewhat similar to A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah Maas but I still couldn't stop listening! The book had me hooked from the start and I highly recommend!
Loveeeeeeeee!!
Loved it! One of my new favorites for sure.
Once I started, I couldn't stop. I am so excited for the next book in the series now, too.
Completely addicted. Best new read in years. Love the fast pace and sass. Can’t wait for book two
I absofrigginlutely loved this book! The narrator was awesome, and she did so well to captivate me. I'm so keen for the next book.
Now I get the hype. This was right up my alley! I couldn’t stop listening! While I do agree that all the male voices sounded the same it was still amazing! I didn’t even want to sleep. I just needed to finish it! Can’t wait for the second book to come out!!
I loved this book but I did not enjoy the narrator. I didn't like her character voices/tones and a few other things.
The book was great! I loved the story and the unique characters! The narrator's were terrible!!! I've listened to hundreds of books and have never felt this way about the narrating of a story. The female narrator made the books feel very kiddish and very very cringe during the minimal spicy parts!!! I think a change in narrator could really set this book off!
Love everything about it!!
Beautiful.
I absolutely love the audio with this book!! excellent & fantastic read with physical book alongside the audio.
Plot: excellent. I loved this book. I couldn’t wait to get back to it! The world building and character development are engaging and so interesting!! Different than a lot of what I have read. Narrator: I hated her at first but wasn’t sure why. As the book went on I realized how great she was and how I felt like she told the story and changed the speed of her voice in a way it felt like how a friend would tell you a story! I did not like the male narrator. At all.
The book was so good. I listened to it every chance I got, now i have to read the second book. The narrator was very good too.
I am in love with this book!!! I NEEEEED the second book NOW!
Some of the most addictive writing for sure. I think the way the plot progresses , especially in terms of the romance is a mastery. Although , I wish there was more character building and intrigue outside of the romance. especially at thelast few chapters of the story , it becomes way too focused on the romance.
A page turner for sure if you like fantasy romance. Although it has many elements I’ve seen in other stories, it’s all woven together in a way that is fresh and interesting. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I didn’t have a problem with the narrator’s voice. The male voices aren’t great, but I could usually distinguish between the characters.
great fantasy story and I like the lead heroin character.
I thought the narrator was perfect for this character. I don’t know what others were commenting on. Good book.
One of the first books that made me cry
nice
After all the hype on TikTok for this being a spicy romance. It fell short. It wasn’t a bad book for a slow burn romance. Then it ended in a cliff hanger. Sigh.
Probably one of my new favorites. however the narrator sounded sick and was not my favorite
Engaging book
Loved it!!
nice book
Amazing! Love this book so much
This was a great book! I very much enjoyed reading it, and couldn’t put it down. I rated the narrator a 2, she was pretty awful. The wrong voice for the character, not a great voice actor, and it was almost a turn off not to finish. I’m glad I did though.
it's actual really good. nice.
Definitely worth reading. Started out a little slow, but still interesting. It got better as it progressed. The narrator sounds like she was sick in the first half of the book, which was quite distracting. She did a good job narrating the action scenes with excitement though. IMO, you might want to wait until the series is complete though, because this one ends on a cliffhanger!!!
Great book
It was good.
I absolutely loved this book. The plot was very gripping and the chemistry between the main characters was insane. One thing though, I think the narrator was under the weather. It could be heard throughout the book.
It's a binge worthy action packed romantasy with never a dull moment. It also ends on a juicy cliffhanger too (but not in a bad way). The only downside was I think the narrator may have been sick so you could sometimes hear sniffles and some of the voices were a bit too similar. But overall it was fantastic and I would highly recommend if you love - ✔️ Throne of Glass ✔️ Dragons
I loved this story and all the intrigue. Well done!
BELIEVE THE HYPE
can't wait for the 3rd book!
Combine Twilight, Harry Potter, Starship Troopers, and a marginally less steamy version of 1,000 Shades of Grey and you get this as a result.
Teen soft core, slightly uncomfortable, main character so obnoxious. I just don’t think it’s meant for me. Maybe youngish girls would like it.
Loved this book!
A strong start unfortunately falls away to predictable plot points and wedged-in romance. It starts off as a coming-of-age story in the vein of Divergent, The Hunger Games, or Ender's Game. (I.E. Our protagonist is thrust into a set of circumstances where the odds are not in their favor and many expect them to fail, and we watch them rise to the challenge.) The world building is quite thorough, the preliminary familial relationships and friendships have lots of room for growth, and I found myself hooked. Then the romance genre becomes more and more prevalent and that's when the book started to feel dissonant. It felt to me like the author wanted to write a YA fiction novel, but also wanted the freedom to add "romantic detail", so they made the main characters 20 and 23 instead of, say, 16 and 19. And for me, the "enemies to lovers" trope is tired. I was more interested in the events of the broader world than I was in the romance, because I didn't feel like the romance was serving the story.Points to the author for the ending though. That surprised me.As for the narrator, I liked her tone for the book in general. I would have liked to have heard a bit more variety in the character voices, particularly the male voices. There were several scenes where two male characters were talking and I found it hard to follow who was saying what if there wasn't a "so-and-so chuckled" at the end of each line.
loved it on to the next book
I thought this was an amazing audiobook. I thought the narrator did a great job and I cannot wait for the sequel.
Did not enjoy story line. I felt like the writing was a little simplistic. The book was a young adult or older teen book with a few racy scenes thrown in the mix. In my opinion, those were not that will written
The narrator is great! Not a big fam of the male narrator though
I love this book!!!
The book was very easy to listen to. The narrator was changed her voice when changing characters. I did not find any problem with her voice. I enjoyed it. The male narrator at the end was fine too. They both did not sound monotone. Which I have come across a few through my listening where I had to stop . This book was twenty hours plus and it seemed be only a couple . Because it flew by. I didn’t want to put it down. I would tell my niece to listen to it but there are a few spots that were a bit too graphic in the sexual content. She is only 15. But they do tell you about it in the beginning of the book. Which I like. I have told my niece to read a book that I’m listening to where it might be a bit to much for a young listener to hear. So I like that part of the author. I just started iron Wing. The next one in this series. Great ! Can’t wait to dive in!
Phenomenal book! The narrator sounds sick or like she just finished crying though.
This was so awesome
Book itself is very enjoyable and a good story. The narrator is unfortunately very hard to listen to. I could only make it about half way through the book, the female narrator doing male voices just sounds way too corny at times and makes it painful to listen.
amazing book. caught me off guard
Great book, halfway decent narrator...halfway cuz halfway into the story you can't hear anything and the audio quality keeps getting worse. Currently in my truck with max volume boost and max volume in my truck in a parking lot and I can make out every other word
Fantasy is not the genre I typically read, but this book was exciting with lots of adventure. I got very involved and attached to the characters. The author and narrator (who is quite good) bring the book to life!
A little young-adult at points. The female narrator is great. The male narrator reminds me so much of Joe from You.
Did I just read the same book as everyone else?
Book started slow but picked up and became interesting until the writer turns into 50 shades of grey for over an hour in every detail of her obvious fantasy. She really does need to get laid, Author that is. I have lost interest since then, too bad I already bought the second book. Next, I am an audio engineer and whoever mixed this is terrible. Her voice is ear piercing. I listen in my car that has really good bass, and I had to reduce my treble and midsnall the way down just to tolerate it and change it back when listening to anything else.
Chef’s Kiss. Just read it. I mean… listen to it, whatever.
Loved it! Not a book for children...
Only 5 and half hours in but i'm already loving it! Hopefully its keeps getting better and better. I can't wait to get to the Dragons part!
just finished Atlas series, and just needed a book to keep my attention. I almost didn’t even download this after reading description. Boy was I wrong! Omg. This book. I haven’t gotten this overwhelmed from heroine excitement since reading Cinder. I literally had to keep my hands on 10 and 2 while driving to work halfway through this book. The rush of excitement I had listening was so overwhelming I was head to toe in goosebumps. Hands down one of my favorite books. I can not WAIT to start book two. Five stars all the way. Very well done.
loved
So as a sucker for Dragons this book was great! Nothing like hearing how authors create the bond and powers between humans and Dragons. I did read the reviews prior to reading it myself just to ensure I was not wasting money. The review that scared me the most was the comparison to Naomi Noviks Scholomance series. I read that series right after reading the entire Tameraire Seriesthinking the same magic would be there.....it wasn't. I went through three books (because starting something and not finishing it is uncivilized) listening to a angry teenager with powers, just one point of view, and dry series. This book was great up until the 4 hour description (The final encounter took over 1.5 - 2 hours) and overview of sexual intimacy between Violet and Xaden. it isnatantly turned in audible Rom-Com. If there are Dragons, that's what we want to know more about two overly descriptive young adults. It's like watching Godzilla and King Kong but the producers sticking to the human story line.
Love this book. I don't know why I was putting it off so long. this series is a new favorite and the narration was amazing.
Liam!!!!!!!!
Interesting story, ruined by the insertion of impossibly immature characters, overly descriptive sex scenes and being unable to maintain a character interaction without forcing extreme perversion into the conversation.
I absolutely loved this book!
Great story!
I really thought the story line was original enough and held promise. The over use of lust and explicit sexual scenes were too much to make this something I would never recommend to friends. Attraction and sexual tension can be written better and less like a trashy magazine. The author has an interesting storyline that I wished she focused more on.
Thoroughly enjoying this series. Can’t wait for Book 2
Good read.
Yes. Read it. I love how elaborate and detailed a whole world of dragons is explained!
Great book- awful narrator
I loved this book. The narrator is fantastic and so easy to rally behind. The characters are all interesting and it is an easy plot with enough little twists to keep you engaged for the long haul. Already 90% through book two.
It was entertaining, like a mix of Harry Potter and Twilight. Little bit annoyingly repetitive when it comes to Violent and her feelings towards her love interest but the target audience probably couldn’t get enough so I get it.
Shrill narrator voice. Super hard to listen to.
It was very captivating once it ended. I wanted more.
The narration was excellent! The storyline was good, but kind of repetitive! Good twist at the end to set up future books. Overall a great listen!
Incredibly wnjoying fantasy listen, although I could have done without all of the somewhat gratuitous romance. I’ve already ordered the next in sreies - am definitely hooked
LOVED THIS STORY!!! FABULOUS THAT'S ALL I CAN SAY
One of the best books I have ever read
Fantastic content and narration. The narrator definitely knows how to bring the emotion portrayed in the book Thoroughly enjoyed listening!
