Going Postal

Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, of which this is one, is nothing short of wonderful. This book is no exception. It is terrific! Written in 2005, it seems to prophesy exactly what is going on now. Set in a fantasy world, these discworld novels are laugh-out-loud funny and no matter what one is feeling, they ALWAYS give one a lift. This is not your typical "fantasy" novel; this is not your typical anything...intelligent, elegantly written and a scream. The characters are nothing short of great. The narration is wonderful. Spot on!

One of Terry Pratchett's best novels - five stars!! I'm probably biased, as a former government employee, but this has to be the best novel ever about government bureaucracies, the inherent challenges, and the colorful employees that run them. Guaranteed to please fans of Pratchett or "hook" those new to his irreverent humor. Enjoy!

This is by far not the first book Terry Pratchett has based in Discworld, but it is one of the best, and it is a great place to jump into the series if you are a new reader. Once you start on this book you'll be hooked! Follow this one up with Making Money for the continuing saga of Moist!

Going Postal was my first experience with author Terry Prachett. He has a natural ability to make you forget that his characters live in a fantasy world even while that world is inhabited by golems, vampires, talking mail and a guy named Moist. Ultimately a story of redemption, Going Postal captures the essence of what it means to finally have a job worth doing and a life worth living. And it does so with absolute hilarity. Praise also to the narrator, who brought each of the many characters to life exceptionally with his wide spectrum of voices. If you like authors like Jasper Fforde and Christopher Moore - you'll love Terry Prachett. And you'll have no trouble "Going Postal".

This was my first Terry Pratchett novel, and I loved it. I had never heard of TP, so when I first heard this book I thought it must be JK Rowling writing under a pseudonym. Much to my surprise, I found that TP has been writing these kinds of fantasy books for much longer than Rowling. He is hilarious! And Stephen Briggs is an excellent reader. I highly recommend this book.

Just the right combination of tongue-in-cheek humor, odd and interesting alternate universe, and characters with their own baggage to make me rave about this book. That and the reader is quite good at bringing it to life ... ... very fun - I want to read all the discworld books now.

Terry Pratchett's book's are very entertaining and even better to listen to while travelling.

Really funny and entertaining. And really strange. A good read.

This book was my accidental introduction to Terry Pratchett and Discworld, and I am hooked. I loved his dry style and found it truly hysterical. Embarrassingly, I didn't find out until I'd finished the book that it was part of a much greater work, but it stood on its own for me. In addition to reading more of Discworld, I plan to seek out every other book I can find that's read by Stephen Briggs. What a wonderful performer.

It seems anything that comes from Terry Pratchett's feather is hilarious, lol funny. There were moments when I laughed tears, and got strange looks from other commuters. I had a very good time listening to this book.

If you are a fan of Terry Pratchett you will love this book in the same wonderful way you've enjoyed his other tales of Discworld. Moist von Lipwig is my newest hero and I look forward to his continuing adventures. Audio by Stephen Briggs, with his thousand voices, accents and inflections, make all the characters come alive. I listened to this set of CDs several times and enjoyed them thoroughly. Happy listening!

I loved this story. It was full of delightfully crazy characters. I normaly only listen to books on tape when I am working but I could not stop listening. The reader is wonderful, he does diffrent voices for the characters. I cant wait for the next story.

Excellent! Very entertaining. It is what you expect from Pratchett.

I really enjoyed this book. Great imagination and the reader or actor, as you will, did a fantastic job of the different accents. Anybody that enjoyed Harry Potter would enjoy this book.

Not my usual kind of book, so i didn't quite know how to take it at first. Off kilter & fun, well written and read. Moist is odd but endearing, and one finds oneself cheering him on.

I loved this book! Wacky and fun! The author's descriptions are knife sharp and witty. The narrator was excellent - his accents added an dimension and texture to the characters. You find yourself cheering for Moist von Lipwig - the unlikeliest of heros.

This is the silliest book I have listened to yet. I loved it! What a crazy place the post office can be! Can't wait to listen to the next one.

This is my first Terry Pratchett book. It took me awhile to get into the book - probably a least 1 CD. So my advice is this - DON'T GIVE UP! Once I was hooked, I really wanted to hear what was going to happen next. It's a strange book - strange characters, strange settings, strange names. But engrossing and endearing. And very funny. One of the best parts of the book is the narrarator - FABULOUS. He really made these strange characters come alive. The hero is a very unlikely one, but you'll find yourself rooting for him. Great listen!

Anything by Terry Pratchett is surprising, witty and thought provoking. This crazy discworld post office he's created is oddly familiar and totally understandable even though populated by goloms and wizards and mail that whispers. It's laugh out loud funny and I highly recommend it. No problem with traffic jams for me - I even find myself sitting in the garage until a chapter ends.

This was a wonderfully delightful book. Very entertaining and funny. Kept my interest thoroughly. Can't wait to read more by this author.

I have listened to a lot of audio books, and this a top choice. It's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy meets Lord of the Rings. This was my first Discworld series book, and I definitely want to hear more.

One of Pratchett's better offerings, with a nice mix of familiar characters and new, interesting folks. The narrator does an excellent job as well, capturing the wry tone Pratchett requires. Great fun!
