Summary
Robin LaFevers has enchanted young readers with her Nathaniel Fludd: Beastologist and Theodosia series, which earned starred reviews from Booklist and Publishers Weekly. In Grave Mercy, LaFevers crafts a fantastical tale sure to win her a new fan base among young adults. Escaping an arranged marriage, 17-year-old Ismae finds sanctuary in the St. Mortain convent, where the sisters worship the gods of old. There Ismae learns that the God of Death has special plans for her-a destiny that will one day compel her to betray the man she loves.

A girl coming of age in an assassin's guild learns she might be playing for the wrong side. Very well written and narrated.

Elegantly written - historical fiction with a Game of Thrones vibe (set in the 15th century politics that inspired GoT) for YA; fantastic assassin heroine Ismae - and beautifully narrated from her perspective. I raced through this booktoward the sequel, which has an even darker GoT flavoring, and just as wonderfully written. Smart and gifted Ismae in this first book rings true and heroic, committed to both her beliefs and her love at every dangerous, conflicted step, with every complicated choice she makes. I trust this author!!! So happy to have found the Fair Assassin series.
