So, this read was very refreshing. Love unexpected...is the best love, right? Sometimes it can be the best thing and thos book is a prime example. Bolu is a genius with words. Kiki and Malakai's are 2 Black British people in a fake relationship that quickly became real, which neither one expected. They both got into a fake relationship to boost their standings in school, internship, and social life. I knew things changed once the pet names came. Malaki called Kiki, scotch for her firey attitude and hot beauty. A play on the scotch bonnet pepper of her Afro-carribean background. Balu also highlighted how the African cultures, how money is sent back to the motherland, how the men move their family to the US or UK and live back in Africa while living a double life. The effects on the children thats never spoken and how the women ignore or deal with the infidelities muted. I loved how it ended and wanted more. Hopefully, Bolu writes a continuance of what happens with kiki and Malachai after their confessions. #Book9of2023 #Bookworm #Whatsnext
Excellent story with perfectly matched narration!
First of all, the narrator! OMG!!!! Ms Opia was exponentially phenomenal. I absolutely enjoyed the book. The author, Ms Babalola, has the gift of creating characters, giving them real personalities, and connecting the reader to their humanity. I could say much more, but suffice it to say, I highly recommend Honey and Spice.
The book was great, the narration really made it so!
