Summary
There are three rules Brooke Sullivan must follow as a new nurse practitioner at a men’s maximum-security prison: 1) Treat all prisoners with respect. 2) Never reveal any personal information. 3) Never EVER become too friendly with the inmates. But none of the staff at the prison knows Brooke has already broken the rules. Nobody knows about her intimate connection to Shane Nelson, one of the penitentiary’s most notorious and dangerous inmates. And they certainly don’t know that Shane was Brooke’s high school sweetheart—the star quarterback who is now spending the rest of his life in prison for a series of grisly murders. Or that Brooke's testimony was what put him there. But Shane knows. And he will never forget.

This book was really hard to finish- probably geared more towards young adult readers. The story line was far fetched at best, and the main character was insufferably simple minded.

Loved this book. Kept me thinking and every time I thought I had it figured out a new twist happened. Ending left me wondering what’s next.

Idk i sorta enjoyed it but then got really irritating with the main character. All too much and just all over the place.

I loved the narrator, I just really hated the book, I have tried to read a few things from Freda McFadden and I just don’t like her work personally. It’s always dragged out and very boring and repetitive.

I couldn’t stand the main character in this novel!! She was so dumb and young and her choices made me yell out loud!!! It reminded me of a Lifetime TV show and I’m not fond of Lifetime!!!

I enjoyed listening to this book while I worked. The twists were great, expected, but surprising. Narrated well! each person was a distinct voice.

Enjoyable. There was a good amount of "did s/he, didn't s/he", although the overdescribing tended to convince me we had a nice Scooby-Doo red herring. The ending was a little cliche and Dexteresque, but the ride was good.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. There was a bit of repetition at times, but it wasn't to a point that I was annoyed by it. I wasn't expecting the ending, but that has to do with the POV of the book. It's difficult to get a full view of the world from a first person POV. The narrator/protagonist is a little unreliable and I think some important information might be at the beginning of the book, at a point where you don't know anyone yet - and that info is not repeated. I wonder if there are more clues than you realize if you know the ending.

Just when I was convinced the plot was predictable and I knew how it would end, it threw me for a loop. Great ending

Gave a 4 star review, but would have like to give 3.5. Decent story, some good plot twists but the stupidity of the main character annoyed me. Narration was great.

I was actually pleasantly surprised. This book really kept me on my toes. I was definitely not expecting the ending. Every-time I thought I figured it out, another plot twist.

Omg. I'm so glad I got this book free. I guessed the twist like chapter 2. The mc was so wishy washy it annoyed me so much with her finger pointing and how everyone just forgave her was weird and gross. Whole book was hard to listen to. The narrator did well to carry this nonsense.

This was a very good book! I caught myself constantly thinking about the book, wanting to hear the book any chance I had, there are so many different twists that kept me wanting more! The narrator for this book, I gave a five star, because she was very easy to listen to, and kept me engaged to the book!

The reader was brilliant! The story was very clever but took some getting used to. In the end, I’m glad I listened to it

The main character, despite her education had zero common sense and it became annoying. She had the worst judgment with men. The story tried to keep turning the reader in so many different directions, not in a good way. The narrator tried to sound masculine, instead it sounded like she had a sore throat.

If you put the speed up to 1.5 it’s kinda funny

The story is very creative and unpredictable. Slightly tedious thought process on the main character's part but overall good enough that I purchased another book with this author.

I always enjoy Frieda McFadden’s books. Wasn’t a big fan of the narrator though.
