Summary
Ambitious New York City teenager Craig Gilner is determined to succeed at life—which means getting into the right high school to get into the right college to get the right job. But once Craig aces his way into Manhattan's Executive Pre-Professional High School, the pressure becomes unbearable. He stops eating and sleeping until, one night, he nearly kills himself.

Craig's suicidal episode gets him checked into a mental hospital, where his new neighbors include a transsexual sex addict, a girl who has scarred her own face with scissors, and the self-elected President Armelio. There, Craig is finally able to confront the sources of his anxiety.

Ned Vizzini, who himself spent time in a psychiatric hospital, has created a remarkably moving tale about the sometimes unexpected road to happiness.

At first I thought, ok I'm not going be able to get into this one... wrong. Once it gets going you don't want it to stop. Is there a book two?

Very enjoyable story! Sad to see how so many people are dealing with deep depression but this story gives hope and makes you realize that many have things way worse than you. I would say the moral of this book is to help others and try to be a light for them in order to ultimately help yourself.

Depresión is like a snake … it slithers into you , sometimes even without you noticing … before u realize it … life seems to be to muck and the suicidal ideations begin … this book is about hope and a better healthier tomorrow … if today sucks … maybe , Just maybe tomorrow won’t … so what you love / keep busy / talk to people / help others … live gd line !!!

Relatable story and characters. Often sad, sometimes deep, but also uplifting. Narrator was excellent.
