Unabridged Audiobook
I have always loved SKP, and still do, but I had trouble being swept away by this story in a way that was never a problem with her past books. Even with that, it was an amazing read. It took time to get accustomed to the narrator. I found her shrill and grating to begin, and that may well be the reason I was not as enamored with this book.
Excellent recreation of the kingdom of Jerusalem and it's many political challenges which helped it to exist for a couple of hundred years. An era of history of which I was heretofore somewhat unaware. Penman masterfully exposes the humanity behind the history. A plethora of names and characters is befuddling infrequently provoked outside research to keep them separated end in mind. Not Penman's fault However it is an excellent and thoroughly enjoyable work.
