Easy book to follow. Some tense moments. But too wordy and descriptive at times but overall I enjoyed listening.

Story was okay but narrator’s attempts to do French and German accents was off-putting making the listening less enjoyable.

Terrible, couldn’t listen to narrator for any longer… only got 2chapters in… she really needs to get her accents right if she is going to do them… he sounded like a German war nazi, not French at all… sorry awful!

This is the first book I've read by this author and I actually quite enjoyed it. I'm going to look for more books to listen to. The narration wasn't too bad either except when she tried to put on a French accent. It made her sound like something from a comedy, especially when she was reading a male part. Maybe sticking to just reading books without putting on an accent would be better.

This is a good listen and the narrator does the book justice as it’s not in a mono-tone voice as in other listens.

Stopped listening after an hour, French characters had German accents which I couldn’t get listen to anymore.

This story could have used a bit more research. The pharmaceutical part was unbelievable. Also, an agent scared of her gun?

I loved the story. I thought it was a really good mystery. It was pretty realistic too how they were able to figure out who the killer was. The ending was great. I loved listening to the narrator’s voice. She did a good job reading. However, she would kind of do accents for characters from other countries, which was a good way to give each character their own voice, but she wouldn’t follow through with the accent. She would start out talking with an accent but then would switch to her normal voice in the middle of their dialogue. Either she needs to work on her accents more or just not do them.

Meh. The story is meh. The narration is meh. It takes 8 hours for the author to describe very little action. Very little actually happens but and it takes forever to actually happen. Glad it was free.

What a great book! I chose it from the FREE book list. It drew me in and I downloaded book 2 for free and bought book 3&4!! Smart marketing!! I love a free book especially good ones! The narrator was FANTASTIC! ❤️

Left to die, had a lot of redundancy, The author spent too much time in the characters heads The narrator needs to become more believable when she is speaking for the male characters

Overall, my husband and I enjoyed this book during a recent trip! The narrator did a good job of inflecting different character accents. I have to agree with one review in that at times the narrative did get wordy and bogged down the overall flow. But we did enjoy the story and it kept our interest!

Good book. Liked the characters. Also the narrator did a good job at all the accents in the book.

Where to begin? We're told numerous times that our heroine, Adele Sharp, is an intuitive, intelligent, first-rate investigator. Good thing, too, because everything she does, says and thinks would indicate otherwise. The plot holes are roomy enough for a division of tanks to be pulled through by the planet's largest pod of blue whales. Who sends a foreign LEO by himself to interview a potential serial killer suspect in a city he's not familiar with and does not read or speak the language! This may be the first book in a series, but it's last work of this author we'll to which we will listen. The narrator is not bad, I do wonder why the names of French characters are given English language pronunciation.

This is the first book I've listened to by this author and I was not completely disappointed. However, if this book was to stand alone and not have the main character returning in a series, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to search out additional books from this author to listen to. The main character Adele is quite a gem and I'm looking forward to listening to more of her adventures.

I don’t know what was worse, the writing or the narration / French accent. I just let this play in the background until it was done.

Very trite overly simple plot. Narrator grating, especially when trying to do accents.

I loved it. And the fact that it is a sreies of boooks, i now have my head burried in them The narrator was also good a i loved the fact that she tried to give each character a distinct sound or pronounciation of some words. All in all it was very fulfiling.

The story was minimally engaging, had the elements of being a good story but while the outline had promise the details didn’t make it work. Add to that a wildly non-French accent throughout... which is just insulting since especially the Parisian accent is well recognized. Not a series I’ll be following.

Well written murder mystery. The narrator’s use of a French accent made the listening much more enjoyable.

Profile Avatar
Jackie

The main character is constantly described in detail ,how she breathes her facial expressions, how she is walking etc, too much uninteresting details I am bored now, very little about solving a crime or much story line. Read enough will find a more absorbing book. Not for me.

Profile Avatar

Good to have a detective story based On a woman for a change . Plot was good enough, some interesting dynamics. Narration was very good

Profile Avatar
Jeffrey E.

Listened for 2 of the 8 hours and have hardly any desire to finish. Cannot get into or understand the garbled french language the narrator spits out. Most the many supporting male characters are described as having strong jaws. The story starts out decent, then just seems to ramble on incoherently. The main character, Adell, is portrayed as being so perfect that it's hard for me to relate to her.

Profile Avatar
Molly G.

I thought it was a pretty good book. Nothing really special about it, but it was an easy listen.
