Summary
Set in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine

Master storyteller Stephen King presents the classic #1 New York Times bestseller about a mysterious store than can sell you whatever you desire—but not without exacting a terrible price in return.

The town of Castle Rock, Maine has seen its fair share of oddities over the years, but nothing is as peculiar as the little curio shop that’s just opened for business here. Its mysterious proprietor, Leland Gaunt, seems to have something for everyone out on display at Needful Things…interesting items that run the gamut from worthless to priceless. Nothing has a price tag in this place, but everything is certainly for sale. The heart’s desire for any resident of Castle Rock can easily be found among the curiosities…in exchange for a little money and—at the specific request of Leland Gaunt—a whole lot of menace against their fellow neighbors. Everyone in town seems willing to make a deal at Needful Things, but the devil is in the details. And no one takes heed of the little sign hanging on the wall: Caveat emptor. In other words, let the buyer beware…

Good story ! True of life , people always want what they don't have , when they get it , the didn't need it at all. If you like twisted king books , you will enjoy this one.

I had to stop listening because a dog dies, not a bad book just not my jam.

The jolly music during intense scenes really ruin things. Also, it sounds like it is all played on a seriously low quality keyboard. Other than that, I really like the book, and Stephen King as a narrator. But the music is maybe the worst I have ever heard, both as music, and as an atmospheric device. Buyer beware.

Good story but the music was pointless.

The story and audio were good, but the music at the end of chapters keep me from rating it a five.

there has never been an author nor will there ever be one as good as my friend Mr. King. Read every book he has written at least twice. The narrator on this sticks to his books based in Maine by the accent., Just my personal opinion though. not a big fan of the Yankee accent as a narrator... either way, great book. please don't ever stop writing and I won't ever stop reading

Good listen, makes me wonder if you loose control how far will you you go. Note to Stephen King, McSherry's Orchard, we used to pick apples their too.You ruined it. You are not a farmer, get over it. Stick to writing. It's the only thing your good at. By the way what do get for gas mileage in that Hellcat. Should 'not you drive an EV.

Stephen King narrates this, and he is surprisingly good. There's a huge variety of characters and I felt he voiced each one with the commitment they deserved. -1 star for the awful revving music for Ace's character that blew out my friggin eardrums. HEADPHONE WARNING!

I’m not even done with the book, but I had to comment right now, because it’s so hard to get through. The narrator is so f**king boring. It’s like he doesn’t know how to change inflection in his voice, and he reads one giant long run on sentence for 25 hours. Way to ruin a book.

Story was great and I love when King narrates but this recording is garbage. There are lots of pops and cracks and at some points you can literally hear people talking in the background, and that’s not party of the fun sound effects and music just poor recording quality. There were some pretty oblivious spliced “dub fixes” just have him read it again with recording gear from this decade.

Great story. one of my favorites by King. But the execution here was terrible. The narration was poorly directed to the point of distraction. Worse was the overlap of music in the audio. Music was played at the conclusion of every chapter and DURING narration of action sequences. A fight to the death should not be accompanied with the sounds of a carousel or carnival.

Stephen King loves telling stories, and you can tell by the performance/ narration. He tells the story as an old codger in the park. Hope the bench is comfortable. This is a long story, but good. WEIRD, but good.

Loved the movie and this book just brought those characters so much more life. Also in true King fashion it is so much creepier than the movie. So glad I picked it up.

A slow starter. Stephen give almost nauseating details that in the end all make the climax brilliant. At first hearing King read was also nauseating. And again as the story moves forward adds to the enjoyment of listening. Great book! Great Listen!!

The ending was wishy-washy. The story built up nicely, but was rushed to the end, as if King could not wait to move on to something else. Stephen King's narration was very good.

I have always liked this book, it’s a good story. For anyone contemplating purchasing this book please note: the complaints about the music track are not overblown. A two year old with a thrift store keyboard could have done a better job. It’s terrible.

I enjoyed the story and the narration is well done for the most part. My only complaint is that there are random bouts of background music which seem to come from nowhere and overtake the narration, especially during important scenes which would be much better if they were narrated without cheesy background music.

Normally I love Stephen King. But this book...not so much. Found it to be very long and drawn out. He definitely took the long way around in this one. The music and sound effects were irritating. Not my favorite.
