The #1 New York Times bestselling author’s wildly successful first novel featuring his new Neverwhere tale, “How the Marquis Got His Coat Back.”

Richard Mayhew is a young man with a good heart and an ordinary life, which is changed forever when he stops to help a girl he finds bleeding on a London sidewalk. His small act of kindness propels him into a world he never dreamed existed. There are people who fall through the cracks, and Richard has become one of them. And he must learn to survive in this city of shadows and darkness, monsters and saints, murderers and angels, if he is ever to return to the London that he knew.

“A fantastic story that is both the stuff of dreams and nightmares” (San Diego Union-Tribune), Neil Gaiman’s first solo novel has become a touchstone of urban fantasy, and a perennial favorite of readers everywhere.

“Delightful … inventively horrific.”

Neil Gaiman is perfection. As an author, as a narrator, as a cameo character in The Big Bang Theory. I have no notes, except maybe why isn't there a sequel yet?? As always, Neil manages to construct a profoundly detailed and impactful fantasy world populated by richly constructed characters and laced with nuanced social commentary. You can't finish this book without it having changed you. Download it right now. Neil if you ever see this give yourself a high-five from Caroline Sinclair from Houston, Texas.

Gaiman may be my new favorite author. His plot is clever, characters are unique, and he takes you on a fantastical adventure. The narration is perfect and considering it is Mr. Gaiman doing the narration I find that remarkable. My experience has been that author narration can be very flat. Not here. I recommend this book for sci-fi/fantasy readers unconditionally.

Brilliant. I could listen to Neil Gaiman narrate forever.

Entertaining Reed. Unfortunately, it was made worse by adding sound effects to the narrator voice which served, almost no purpose, and made it hard to understand.

The narrator made the book for me.

This is one of my all time favorite stories. Neil Gaiman's imagination is wildly impressive.

I love this author from the other books. "Neverwhere" is also not a bad read, a lot of imagination and fantasy, but... I got lost in the plot and it was not always captivating because of so many different details.

This book has so many twists and turns, that it keeps me on the edge of my seat! Great story for a long road trip.

Such a profound difference when read by the author! Eloquent, articulate, tender and riveting, which isn't unusual for Neil Gaiman, but still, this is a great story for a breadth of ages and interests.

World creation galore...plot line not so much...hours spent with characters wondering around, but the plot goes nowhere. Enjoyed the narration.

It’s like Neil is projecting and imagination into your mind. It’s hypnotizing. I’ve enjoyed making up what the characters and setting looks like. I read American Gods and thought it was good, but I had never thought to pursue the other reading by Gaimon. I listened to another one before this, the Ocean at the End of the Lane. That one was also enchanting. Again, super unique story line. It reminded me of Little, Big by Johnathon Crowley; which I also recommended!

Very good voice. Imaginative and stirring story (just what one would expect from an author of this caliber).

The narrator of this book was fabulous as he slipped easily into different characters and the book itself was an intricately woven different world. Brilliant.

This book was superb. I loved all the characters but I think I am really partial to the Marquis. I hope there is another visit to the “ under London”by Neil Gaiman, I hated for this last visit to end.

Now a Gaiman fan. Well, okay, I was after reading and listening to American Gods. I will look for more from this incredible artist. He reads very well and what better combination could be asked for--the author (a voice actor) reads his own work. Recommended!

What a great story! We listened every night together. What a great couple to do. Imaginative Characters were amazing and the narration was the best by the author

Plot and story average though well written. Read well by the narrator though found the tone of bored indifference with which he ended most sentences rather iritating.

Did not personally care for the story although the narration was well done.

Neil Gaiman somehow managed to write a book that is as intense as it is disaffecting. The story is brilliant, but the characters are distant and, at times, frustrating. I didn't fall in love with any of them. Perhaps, Gaiman did this purposefully so that his characters felt like the shadows of Neverwhere. I couldn't say.
