Unabridged Audiobook
I purchased this before I saw that it’s not the dramatized version. Started the first 2 pages and I just can’t listen to it. Not only Is this narrator NOT good, I need all of the voices for the other books. I tried, this is unbearable to listen to.
The book itself is wonderful just like the rest in this series! However, the Narrator wasn't my favorite for this one. I was someone who listened to the dramatic audio for the first couple of books, so this was a jump, but I knew to expect that, but there are differences in pronunciations that bugged me a little. I also really hate the way she makes Tairn sound and sometimes how she tries to make Xaden sound at moments. She tries to do this growling voice that I really don't like lol, and in general I just don't like how Tairn is narrated by her. I can't complain too much because I had just finished the other books in time for this one to come out, and I did not want to wait until mid year for the dramatic version. I'm not completely hating on the Narrator, she has a good voice and she speaks clearly, it's just weird to go from the dramatic audio books to this version and have things pronounced way differently and characters portrayed to sound completely different then what I was used to.
The narrator had a clear voice, but her tone felt jarring and aggressive throughout most of the book. It made it sound like Violet was angry and defensive during scenes that should be more neutral or calm, making it hard for me to actually enjoy the story. As someone who read the first two books (rather than listening), the narrator's voice for Tairn was not at all how I imagined him to sound. I imagine Tairn as a calm, stoic, deep voice rather than growly, angry, and punchy. It felt out of character for how he is written, in my opinion. Aside from the narration, the storyline itself was lackluster. It felt like hardly anything was accomplished during the whole book, and the cliffhanger at the end was just irritating because I finally felt somewhat intrigued, but was left hanging. I wish I could say otherwise, but I likely won't be continuing this series.
Honestly, I liked the book as a whole much better than expected. There is definitely more world-building than the previous two books, but it was enjoyable to learn more. However, the ending SUCKED. Rebecca Yarros introduced so many different plot points and left with a number of cliffhangers that left the ending feeling rushed and confusing. If I could recommend waiting for the fourth book to come out before you read this one, I would. But Lord knows RY isn’t writing that anytime soon.
One of my habits is reading the reviews prior to writing my review to see if anyone had the same experience as me. For one, I did not know there was a (air-qoutes) dramatic version....have i been missing out. The same narrator, narrated the first two books and it's completely normal not sure how the voice gave such a perception that people did not like the book lol. In cases such as this, it is always good to buy it and read it yourself. This way they will sound like the voices in your head when you read them, but hey, I'm just an audience member myself so what do I know. Now onto an actual review about the "content" of the book. I thought overall the book was excellent, as it built on the continued story telling by Rebecca Yarros. I love the expansion with the seventh race of dragon however, I feel it's becoming more of a love story than about dragons. For example, when a Godzilla movie comes out, you are excited because you get to see Godzilla on screen kicking butt breathing the atomic breath. No one goes to see the in-depth story telling of humans, I'm just saying. I love how the powers have also expanded, but don't really care for the 30 minute sex scenes which seem to go in to more detail to intrigue the reader but I could only think of how much longer is this part gping to last between Violet and Xaden so we can get back to the dragons. A couple of questions: Where was Andarna since she left as she just randomly popped up, Please explain this ritual Violet went through, please create an arc regarding Violet's father, why is Melgrin and Codah never at a Venin fight.I am ready for the next book, it is worth the pre-order like the previous.....and I'm a sucker for grumpy dragons with powers kicking butt.
I thought the author got caught in several whirlpools that I didn't think we'd ever get out of, but once you pushed past those spots, the book overall is quite enjoyable.
This is a great series, but am sorry to say this one is so far my least favorite. Not as many spicy scenes and a lot of specifics that became a bit too much to have to remember and keep straight. I still loved the author and the story though.
Great book as are the other two before it. Not a fan of the narrator though, her tone was a little aggressive when it didn’t need to be. Some of the names were mispronounced too, specially some of the dragons.
not as good as previous books. narrator as disappointing as usual.
What was that ending! I loved this book so much but left me needing more once it was over. Cannot wait for the next
amazing, the beginning is slow and frustrating. authority sucks. going to re listen to the whole series now to cope.
Really enjoyed this book, cant wait for the next one
Hard to put down!
i loved it. the ending....chef's kiss. great character development
My Gosh.....Maybe the best book of the series so far!! I'm absolutely loved it!!
oh no im not liking the narrative. I was hoping it would be like the other 2 books .
Love this series
Soler is an awesome narrator. She is by far my favorite reader. I love her energy and clear voice. I am not a fan of when teddy reads. He makes xaaden sound like a dumb oaf. Whereas the picture of him when soler reads is smart, mysterious and seductive. I like this book series but I do think violet can be quite immature at times. And they portray her as smart yet she misses so many very obvious things. And she doesn’t ask questions about even the most basic things around her. Yet can be so smart when it’s needed to elevate the storyline. I think that’s a major plot flaw in these books. She is not consistent in how she is written. And there definitely needs more details about her father and other various things that are not explained. Yet she acts like a child with zaaden and other things. I like their love story but personally would rather not have all the sex scenes detailed out so much. That may be a personal preference, but I would rather pass on them. It’s too much over and over again. And I hate how they both go back and forth on wanting to be with the other. They can’t make up their minds and constantly being done over silly things.
My favorite out of the three
Awesome series
Love this series of books can’t wait for the next. I struggled in the beginning to jump back in but it wasn’t long and I was hooked.
Can’t wait for the next book!
I loved the dynamic between Xaden and Violet in this book and highly enjoyed the world building. I loved that we were able to see our favorites in new environments. I do not understand the negative reviews surrounding this book. Also, the narration of Xaden by Teddy in this book was PERFECTION.
Fantastic book! Fantastic narrators just wish I’d have gotten a little more Xaden!
I loved listening to this book. I hope there is another one in this series.
I don't usually like female authors but this one is fantastic
It was a bit hard to get into and I honestly think if they had used the narrator for Zayden and the other male lead roles the entire time it would have been way better .
Another great book and cliff hanger!!! Guess I’ll be now waiting in anticipation for the next book in this series!!!
Beautiful heartbreaking story with a historically correct view into Poland during the times. And beautiful read by narrator. Smooth and warm voice.
Great book! Can’t wait for the next one!
So much! So many questions! Just next book just let Rebecca Soler read the whole book!! She is top tier!
Rebecca Yarros is an incredible writer. Her writing has not failed us in this third book. I absolutely love this series. So wonderfully frustrating to read as it releases.
I was a little disappointed in this addition to the series. It was okay - but not on the same level as the other books.
Omg another brilliant book in a great series
I’m still falling off this cliff!
Jarring ending. Great first two books. Not sure if I will continue the series.
I was disappointed by this book, it felt like a filler in the series. It dragged out and once you found out the answers you were waiting on.. you’re like wait that’s it ?? I will re read and hopefully change my opinion. I will look wait for book 4 and pray it does not disappoint.
loved this book. Hate that we're going to have to wait so long to get the next one. I like the female narrator wasn't too keen on the male narrators, but all in all it was okay
I love this series. My only complaint is that I’m going to have to wait too long for the next book!
I was hoping they would finally fix the way they pronounced the dragon's names but nope; definitely a let down after RY said she would do better. It just feels disrespectful to Scottish culture, if you're going to use Gaelic in your books at least take the time to research it and learn how to pronounce words correctly. As for the actual story - I at least liked it more than Iron Flame but not more than Fourth Wing. They should have kept this to a trilogy, this book felt like anime filler episodes. There was so much going on that from chapter-to-chapter it felt like I was reading an entirely different story, and because there was so much everything was only explored surface level; none of it felt like it had any depth to it.
I loved every second of this book with the exception of the cliffhanger in the end. I am a sucker for HEA’s, so I am anxiously awaiting the fourth installation.
