Unabridged Audiobook
This book is a shining example of what audio books can be. It takes an interesting, funny, and absorbing story and then adds a fantastic narrator and you have a classic. I loved this book and found myself turning off the sound on the TV just to listen to another part of the book. The Irish accent and delivery of the narrator brought so much enjoyment and depth to a story that I normally would not have liked. I only give 5 stars to books that I will re-listen to and this is definitely one to return to when I need a bit of a laugh and remind how lucky I am that I grew up in a nice family! Ha!
It was thought provoking at times the the writing was absolutely amazing and hilarious. I laughed out loud so often. Good listen
I enjoyed Rachel's story partly because it was written so long ago that cell phones hadn't taken over and the internet hadn't made the world such a small place yet. I also enjoyed the way the writer put herself so effortlessly into a drug addicted mind. I also love redemtion stories, so this one work well for that. I liked how the story showed that one of the ways recovering addicts cope with recovery is to be honest with themselves while simultaneously being able to laugh at themselves so that they lighten up their lives.
Really good listen! It was in the VIP selection. Not at all what I thought it would be but turned out it was very well done. The narrator captured the emotions of each of the characters. I would highly recommend it.
Fun story with lots of interesting twists. The narration was superb and brought delightful humour to the lighter aspects of the story.
It's a hoot! I love Rachel! Her denial takes her on a life changing adventure. The author's voice is perfect for Irish Rachel. This is a favorite line Rachel spouts off, "Rented out my vagina to a swallow to build a nest in." See what I mean? It's a hoot!
Very well written story about a struggle millions have every day. Humorous, sad, mushy, and brilliant! Wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did.
Perfect summer read. Great characters and location. Loved the narrator too.
I loved this book. I took it as one of my VIP rewards and I am so happy that I did. I have since downloaded other books from this author.
Amazing and very informative.
It was a good story but seemingly very predictable but possibly because my family lives this with my sister being an addict.
Not a fan. Stopped after 20% of the book
Loved Rachel's story with lots of ups and downs. Really interesting and couldn't stop listening to it. The narration was excellent. So listened to the sequel straight after. Which I highly recommend too.
This just didn’t work for my. I find the lifestyle off putting. I finally skipped to the end before I found anything that did work for me. The narrator was a little hard to listen to.
I really could not get into this book, I found it very boring and not appealing. But it could be someone else's cup if tea.
Felt amazingly real
Great read. Fantastic narration
Charming, witty book, which takes an honest, sympathetic look at addiction. The end is a bit cheesy but forms a nice conclusion. A good narrator, who makes the characters come to life.
Thoroughly enjoyable
I thoroughly enjoyed this book with all the vulgarity and crass behavior one might expect in the depiction of an addict. This story opened my eyes to the reality of how a person might find themselves swept up in this condition. I absolutely loved the ending but I am a sucker for redemption and hope for what seems hopeless. The narration was superb!! I laughed. I cried. I was frustrated. I was overjoyed! Never give up!
Quite silly in places but an enjoyable read. keyes' stories are always very witty
Loved it
Loved it !! Laughed out loud!
I just couldn’t get into this one…
This book was laugh out loud funny and so well done. I’ll read it again and recommend it to anyone who has ever been an addict or around an addict. Which is all of us.
Loved this! Narration was perfect.
Enjoyed this book. I can see this happening in real life … denial. Liked the humor in it as well.
Fun easy listen. Such a shame the same reader is not reading the next instalment as the narration was excellent.
If I could give this a zero stars I would. Terrible book about a self absorbed “oh woe is me” character. The people in this family ALL need rehab. This pokes fun at real people in life struggling and that’s what really makes this book tank.
Excellent narration.
Very interesting book very good story enjoyed it very much
I loved it! Laugh out loud funny. The characters are believable and likable. I’ll remember this one, and probably read again one day. The narrator was wonderful.
As always, hilariously funny whilst tackling a real and serious subject. Really enjoyed it and will listen to it again.
Enjoyed the book , the ups and downs , denial to acceptance .... the humor dark and light ...
Well done.
Great storyline with amazing characters. I did not find it as funny as other reviews called it, but Rachel does have a great personality that does help lighten the mood about addiction. Great book, narrator, and characters. Glad I listened to it
loved this!!! wish life was like this
Insightful and funny. An entertaining novel in its own right, this book manages to be both educational and tell an excellent story. A must-read for anyone working in addiction or trying to understand addiction, as well as anyone just looking for a good book. Excellent narration brings each character to life.
It felt like a realistic story
Loved it. Lots of twists and turns.
Narrator did a wonderful job of bringing this story to life. It was a beautifully told tale, peeling back the layers through the stages of recovery.
Another great Walsh family tale!
There is a little bit of Rachael in all of us. Great read and great reader. Thank you Marian.
