Unabridged Audiobook
Absolutely loved this book! Great story for fellow nerds and any fans of 80s pop culture! Will Wheaton is such a great audio book narrator! I? don’t think anyone other than Will Wheaton could’ve brought this world to life!
Hope the movie is just as good, wanted to listen to this more than watch movies. Great narration A
Slow start, but more than made up for it. Exciting, engaging, and great narration by Wheaton.
This was flat out awesome and one of the best total "nerd-out" books ever. Wil Wheaton was perfect - anyone who disagrees is just flat out wrong. I have recommended this book, and this audiobook to everyone I know, and some random people on the elevator. Stop reading this and download this book RIGHT NOW!!
This book is awesome without a doubt the best book I've read or heard five stars *****
I thought the narration was great and the story itself was pretty decent. Definitely a book written by a boy for other boys. Indulgent in that manner, but still entertaining. Did anyone else see the parallel between "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and "Ready Player One". I don't think it took away from the story at all, but I mentioned it to a friend (this is now his favorite book of all time I guess) and he didn't see it. I thought they were almost the same story though.
Will Wheaton is absolutely the best person I could think of to have read this book! Great story and writing, wonderfully read! LOVED IT!
One of the best books I've read. Read the book in 2016 and had to listen to the audio book! Wheaton is an awesome narrator . Halfway done with Armada as well with him as the narrator too. he's the best. RPO is amazing. I highly suggest to listen!
If you love the 80's, nerd things, and dystopian fiction, this is the perfect book for you. Stick it out at the beginning when it's mostly a review of 80's culture and a set-up fpr the futuristic world of technology, and you will be rewarded with a lot of plot twists and action. Wil Wheaton does a great job narrating as well!
Loved it. Looking forward to the movie adaptation. Bummed they are getting rid of H for the movie. Don't think this book needs a sequel. Story was great as a stand alone
Couldn’t stop listening!
Really enjoyed this audiobook, the narrator did an awesome job.
The book is fantastic, especially if you grew up in the '80s like I did. It kills me to say that Wil Wheaton, although an excellent Wesley Crusher, may not be the best audiobook narrator due to his lack of vocal variety. Nearly all the characters sounded like a grown Wesley Crusher.
Absolutely loved this storyline and narration!
What an enjoyable book to listen to! And Will Wheatons narration was spot-on. The story line was so interesting, and I absolutely loved all the 80's references. Two thumbs up for this one!!
I loved all the real life references throughout the story. The narrator had an annoying voice, but really brought life to the character
ive listened to it at least a dozen times.
Much better than the movie OMEGALUL
I was listening to this in the car and I was SO INVESTED, I almost crashed. 5 stars
amazing book and great narrator.perfect
I love this story!
Great book! I have read this book countless times because I loved it. The audiobook is even better, with a great narrator of Will Wheaton.
I really enjoyed the book so much more than the movie. Wil Wheaton was the perfect choice for narrator. Fun and thought provoking, reminds me a little of the Matrix. Great listen!
I loved it! I thought Will Wheaton did a great job. Between doing different voices and keeping the listener engaged. Im just disappointed how much the movie left out
Man this guy is cheesy.
If you are a fan of the movie the book will blow your mind I want to live in this world
Wow this was perfect!!!
Wil Wheaton is an amazing narrator! And the book was amazing as well!
An amazing book that was perfectly narrated by Will Wheaton !!!
Nostalgia does not a plot make. Show, don’t tell, Mr. Cline. Wil Wheaton’s upspeak is unbearable.
I enjoyed the narration, but otherwise, Ready Player One failed to impress. I won't harp on the strange game elements mentioned since such aren't really the focus in this book, but it is important to highlight how the game features constantly work in favor of the MC. The book suffers from failing to set a framework of rules for the VR game's various features. Everything just feels too convenient for the MC as a consequence. I think Ready Player One does well as a LitRPG (role playing game elements in literature) for children and young adults in many ways, but it panders to an older audience through its nostalgic 80's pop culture references. This results in great moments of nostalgia followed by the disappointment of a childish MC, surrounding cast, and general plotline. There are better LitRPG's out there to read like 'The Land: Founding', 'Awaken Online', and 'Survival Quest' all of which improve upon Ready Player One's formula.
Awesome Book!!! First Class
Grear book five stars
Loved the story!! Narrator was excellent.
Wow, this definitely beats the movie! I was enthralled the whole time. I might listen again!
Wow!!!! Loved this book!!!!!
One of the best books I’ve ever listened to!
I've re-read this book almost every year for the past 7 years. I still find new details or pickup on new references. Cline does an amazing job of capturing real human emotion. The highs feel genuinely elated. The lows are realistically dark. When I first read this book back in 2011 I was a high school nerdy guy. I never felt I related to any of the male leads in books like Artemis Fowl whose super-intelligent or Harry Potter who is super amazing at everything he does. I connected with Wade because amongst the fantasy and sci-fi of his journey he wrestled with real problems too.
First of all Will Wheaton missed his calling, one of the best narrations I’ve ever heard. I gave him five stars only because I’m couldn’t give him 10. Second, this book has been the most fun I’ve had listening to an audiobook in sometime. It’s so good I think I’m going to writing and go listen to it again.
cant stop listening!!!!!
The author built a great world, but he would have benefited from some stronger editing. Parts of the book are needlessly repetitive and awkward. The story had a great premise, but the ending was pretty standard. It was a fun read, but certainly not a masterpiece. Wil Wheaton was a great narrator for the book.
Loved this book! Brought back many memories of my son and husband playing games I remembered so many of them and I was an 80s girls.. so great era. The scary part is that it could become a reality one day. Wil Wheaton you did a great job
Absolutely amazing I’m going to the movies today! I can’t wait to see all tge characters I have imagined in my mind now I will be able to see them !!! I can’t wait I’m like a school girl on tge 1st day of school ????
Fun and easy listening.
absolutely amazing book.
This book was recommended to me by a friend who is a big gamer. Even though I am not, this has become probably one of my favorite books all time. The pulp culture references are second to none, and will weaton does a great job narrating.
entertaining from start to finish.
Great book, extremely captivating and intense storyline.
this book is awesome, if you love gaming this book is for you.
I loved the book, and the audiobook too! While I wasn't initially a fan of Wil Wheaton's narration, his delightfully geeky demeanor actually did grow on me, after a while. After finishing the book, I realized that he narrated this 80s geekfest better than anyone else possibly could have. This was a lot of fun!
Very well detailed for the gamer culture to enjoy.Revenge of the nerds .
This book is very entertaining to read. And growing up I relate to everything cuz I was into video games
I love it! I’d love to find more books like this!!
Really enjoyed this book. Took me back to my chidhood days with all the 1980s references. Wil Wheaton is great as the narrator; a prefect fit for the first person gamer. This is a book I'll be listening to again and again.
Awesome, immersive read. Sucks you in from the start, great for geeks and nerds, fans of fantasy and sci fi. Wil Wheaton was terrific as a narrator. Very impressed, just started clines 2nd book, armada, based off how much I enjoyed this one.
I'm not into the current gaming culture but, still am knowledgeable about current games. Being in my 40s, I really did appreciate the nostalgia and still enjoyed the modern and future aspect of the story. Best original story in a long time.
Excellent Read for anyone into 80's Pop culture. Really brought me back to growing up during that time.
Very good book loved every second of it this is my second time listening to it and it was just as great narration and I recommended this book to every gamer and fiction adventure reader
Excellent! Truly excellent! One of the best books I've read in a long time!
Great book! A couple funny pronounciations, but otherwise great narration!
Two thumbs up!
Absolutely excellent book. I can't wait for the movie! Wil Wheaton knocked it out of the park also.
Great story full of 80s nostalgia. It's read very well. It paints a picture of the world so close at hand that it's believable. I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure and character growth throughout the story. I would totally recommend. It's for anyone who grew up in the 80s. I loved it and will listen to it again!
I had been told to check out the audiobook of this title in particular, and I'm so incredibly happy I did. Not only is this book itself a ton of fun, but Will Wheaton's vocal stylings really add the necessary character to help visualize the story without over-doing it.
As a female newly exposed to the gaming world, this is probably one of the best books I've ever read in my life.
Great reference to 80s trivia. Interesting, but scary forecast of the human situation.
I enjoyed this book. I was born in the 80s and didn't get all of the references but it was still a good listen. He narrator was perfect for this book and was great.
I enjoyed this book very much. Will's voice was perfect, and his voice is synonymous with Wade for me now.
Will Wheaton wins this book and worth the listen. The maddening part is the ongoing details of trying to explain something. To many words to explain something simple.
I would say this was definitely an inventive piece of science fiction. The expansive detail of gaming and cultural lore was impressive, much more impressive than the characters, who were more or less flat and predictable, just as they were in the far less impressive movie adaptation, which bore almost no resemblance to the book. I liked the book a lot more, but not being a gamer geek or film buff myself made enjoying the heavy doses of gaming scenes and film worship a little difficult, even though I still thought the author did a decent job of keeping a rube like me entertained throughout. There seemed to be a definite left-leaning political bend to Cline's opinions, and you get a nice gender switcheroo at the end, along with the obligatory shaming of the protagonist, who represents us the readers, for being a member of the evil patriarchy. After being properly cut down to size by the switcheroo character, who had been reasonably interesting as Wade's best friend until he/she is revealed to be the author's poltical lecturing diversity catch-all, Wade then proceeds to singlehandedly save the world anyway. I guess it was just important to save the world while knowing how much of a privileged little brat he is, even though he's an impoverished orphan whose only remaining family got nuked earlier in the book, his best friend has been lying to him for years about who he/she is, and the girl he loves seems to despise him, abuse him, and treat him like total crap for the duration of their magical romantic journey. Anyway, the movie adaptation did manage to avoid some of these woke agenda swipes, but then again the movie was a turd, so. Either way, if you have the stomach for being briefly pilloried and shamed, then the other non-political portions of this book are entertaining and inventive enough to make listening to it worth your time. Will Wheaton was cool as the narrator, but he kind of sucks as Will Wheaton.
Very different and interesting book. Narrator did a great job.
Awesome, I loved it!
Enjoyed this immensely, multiple times.
classic story red by a classic icon.
This book pulled me in and kept my attention for hours. I couldn’t stop listening!
I can see our future turning into this with all the tella work an school classes are on line
This might be the single greatest movie let down in recent history. I was attracted to the book because of the movie but holy cow was I blown away. This book is absolutely incredible. An amazing story of love and video games (which is always an excellent mix) and triumph over the powers that be. Wil does such a incredible job of narrarating.
one of my favorites.
Perfect book. The narrator has feeling like no other
Completely transported my mind into a new reality and reminded me how much I love getting lost in a story.
A delightfully intriguing story with a personable narrator.
Way better than the movie!!!! I read the book first and the egg hunt challenges are different in both book and movie! If you have only seen the movie you don’t know what is waiting for you in the book! It was a captivating novel!
This is my favorite book and Will Wheaton has a bug part to play in that. His narration gives me nostalgic vibes as it reminds me of watching The Wonder Years when I was growing up. The details in the book are so important as detailed knowledge is important in the book. Listen to this book.
Felt like it took a little bit for me to get into it, but once I did I was in love
A classic, well written and well read.
This book isn’t completely awful but it’s also not nearly as great as the hype and ratings make it out to be. I’m an adult nerd who was a nerdy kid in the 80’s. From all the hype I expected to love this book, but I didn’t. The main character is a callow, selfish youth that doesn’t grow even a little as a person over the course of the book. How could anyone root for this guy to become a multiple billionaire with control over the civilization altering internet? My primary gripe with the book were: -the constant lists of pop culture name-drops, written like the author learned about 80’s culture from reading Wikipedia. Just lists to show off knowledge, very little world building or passion for the topic. -deus ex plot armor for the protagonist -faceless, one-dimensional villains -MC has a “love” interest that’s an unhealthy infatuation. He treats her like crap once he actually meets her and gets to know her. -Mediocre writing with low effort world building, poorly developed characters, balanced by excellent narration. If you’re going to get into this story at all, I recommend the audiobook narrated by Wil Wheaton.
super detailed. loved it
Great futuristic story. Everything actually seems completely plausible in the not so near future.
Great story
As a Boomer, I challenged myself with this one and what a wonderful story! The narrator was perfection!
Absolute trash, reads like bad fan fiction.
What an awesome book! Growing up through the 80s definitely helped me with the theme of the book! I enjoyed the storyline and the fast paced feeling of the book! I will definitely read this book again!
I enjoyed this book a lot. The story line kept my interest and the reader’s voice didn’t put me to sleep. Well done!
Much better than the movie, loved it!
Amazing book! Was on the edge of my seat the whole time!
Haven't heard the audio, but the book itself is just a series of Wikipedia entries about the 1980s written by a cringe incel.
So much better than the movie
love everything about this book
Liked the book really thought the narrator was good
One of my favorites. Well written and great narrative.
Great story I really enjoyed this book!
loving it more more more
Great book.
Great book and great narration by Wil Wheaton
I randomly chose this audiobook. This “type” of book is not my style but I am so glad I listened to it. I was hooked with the evolving story. Unbelievably believable. Also, there could be no other Narrator besides Wheaton.
Great book with a great story line read with great narration!
this was a great story and the narrator was perfect for it.
Such an amazing read!
One of my favorites so far love it!! Excited for the next ! The reader is easy to follow and has a good voice which is hard to find one like that
I could not stop listening. Great narrator, great book.
I love this book...I'm already on the third read...great book Ernest Cline
This was amazing, i wanted to read the book before I watched the movie, now i dont think there is any way the movie can live up to this amazing book
A great book! popular culture and gamer culture combined in a compelling epic. awesome book, I couldn't barely turn it off.
It's a Great Listen!
Overall, a great listen. This book takes a semi-dystopian look at the not so future present?? It paints a picture of the outside world without dwelling on it too much. The main focus is what happens in the Oasis or the virtual world everyone spends all their waking hours in. The book plays out sorta predictably, but the details are hard to predict. The details are where this book actually shines. The whole book revolves around intricate details about the late 70’s, all of the 80’s and even a few details into the 90’s. Anyone who grew up in these decades will recognize most if not all of these references. The younger and future generations will likely not get them, but will more likely relate with the Oasis itself and people’s interactions within it. Overall its a good and exciting read. Paced fairly quickly. A little predictable in parts and overall. Still fun to read and hear the references back to my childhood. Will does a pretty good job reading it. He seems to start off a little slow and clunky and then really finds his groove and pacing. The end of the book is where his reading really shines. Beyond that it’s fun having the book read by one of its pop references. I would recommend this book.
This was one of the best narrators I've ever listened to, not to mention I couldn't set this book down. Read through it in just a couple days!
I watched the movie first and thought it was pretty good, not amazing though. I just liked the thought of a life of video games. Then I listened to this book and couldn't put it down. I LOVED the book!!! I want to go see the movie again now that I know the characters better. I probably won't like it as much as the book, but I'm hoping I like and understand the movie even more now.
Reading after finally watching the movie, I found the book an improvement on the story, world, and characterisation. I did not mind the descriptiveness of the world and 80s references, as it's likely not everyone would know all of them. And, the overall pacing and progression of the book made for a fun and compelling adventure.
Very creative the narrator was also very good can’t wait to watch the movie I wonder if it’s as good
I thought it was a entertaining book. Must like video games. The 80s throwbacks were nice. It was a bit of a teen book, but I did enjoy it. Will Wheaton did a great job.
I thought the book was really good well written to being a MLG gamer really kind of had me more immersed in the book I love the way that the 80s culture was definitely represented and I really wish the Oasis did exist I would definitely be a hermit
Great book can’t wait to see the movie
This was a good book. However I listen to it, I can see how the beginning would drag if you read it in paper back.
Seriously, this was one of the best books. I truly loved all the nerd and 80's references. I would absolutely refer this story to my fellow nerds!
I loved this book. The story was fun and unique. I really enjoyed the different layers with the game and the details about 1980s pop culture.
f****g awsome
Honestly, I enjoyed the rush of nostalgia. I was born in ‘91 and I grew up with much of the same stuff Wade did, minus the OASIS. But I couldn’t get past the amount of profanity... Moderation in all things folks. Overall, I’d recommend it if folks had seen the movie and wanted to compare it.
W0W that was great narration by Wil Wheaton. being a kid of the 80s this book brought back a lot of memories of all the games I played. and movies I watched.
Absolutely LOVED this book! I love that Wil Wheaton is narrating! He definitely helped make it even better! The book does start a little slow but once you listen a little bit, you're hooked! Lots of 80's references and awesome store line. I'll be listening again!!
:)!!!!
original story line. some parts dragged on. but the story was very interesting. i really enjoyed this story.
So good! Best narration of any audiobook I’ve listened to!
Amazing all the way around.
hopefully the movie is half as good as the book. slow ish start but most definitely worth it.
amazing book. I cant wait to see what the movies is like
I thoroughly enjoyed this book I could not stop listening to it from the time I started to the time it ended. It brought back so many memories from my teenage years in the 80's and yet all the futuristic of the Oasis to life ....well narrated by the way!!!
Loved the book. It is a wonderful read that kept me captive from the beginning right through til the end. I will definitely be keeping up with this author.
I recently finished and find myself looking forward to listening to more before realizing I finished it!! Excellent book as a gamer and great narration!
Great book way better than the movie
Great book, and just saw the movie which is amazing as well.
I am not a huge fan of fantasy, but this was a real battery burner! Great story and of course great narrator. If you're old enough to remember black and white TV's you'll love the many references to classic games.
I really like this book. I liked the story (Goblet of Fire meets Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). I liked at the 80's references, although there was a point where Wade was literally listing off songs, or movies, or something for the longest time. I preferred the more integrated references than having Wade just rattle on about James Halliday's favorite (insert 80's theme subject). To me, it really slowed down the momentum of the story. Regardless the book had an overall great pace, I finished this book in two days, and I'll probably listen to it again. The characters were great, my favorite was Wade. I could definitely relate to his backstory. Will Wheaton was a really good narrator, he really added to the story, flawless. Despite my small, nit-picky, critiques I give Ready Player One five stars. This is a good book for anyone just getting into audiobooks.
Be ready to absorb some context and world building at the start-- a little slow, but so very worth it. Really great story that made me proud to have grown up in the 80s as a nerd. Pace was good, characters were huggable, I felt true suspense multiple times. Narrator, Wil Wheaton (Wesley on Star Trek TNG) was outstanding.
This book was amazing!!! It had all of the elements needed for a great book. The character development allows the reader to go on the journey and care what happens to the people. Although born in 1979, I was a little young for some of the references, I got enough and what I didnt get, I looked up. I was so addicted to the book, when I finished I managed to find an old pizza parlor with the steep A-frame building, wood paneled walls and about 20 old arcade games. After finishing Ready Player One, I was in need of more narration by Wil Wheaton and found Armada, also by Cline. It gave me what I was looking for, but was almost like Ready Player One Lite. It is always great to find good books like this that are a roller coaster and are able to take me on an adventure. With the inclusion of VR and the Oasis, it allowed for anything to be possible, but still in a real worls scenario unlike most fantasy.
One of my favorite books to date
This has to be one of the best artistically detailed books ive ever read but im a bit biased due to seeing myself being the same way as the main character in the book but its definitely worth the read and listen it swept me away once i closed my eyes and listened
This book is amazing ??????
This is now become one of my favorites of all time! As someone who favors more “traditional” books such as the Sherlock Holmes stories or most books by Ernest Hemingway, I was never really into Sci-fi type works. Along with Cline’s other work, Armada, I now look forward to any of his future work with high anticipation. Definitely worth reading again and again!
This was a fun read...and I grew up in the 80s. I'm older, and not a nerd or gamer. I can't wait to see the movie! Will Wheaton brought this book to life. I almost feel sorry for people who will ONLY see the movie
Has some good developments, but fails to tie the concepts together and kinda just ends rather than completing. A lot of the early rants the lead goes through are rough as well, and needless the say the romance was garbage as tends to be the case with this sorta work. Once it buckled down and focused on the actual premise however it was much smoother sailing. Definitely a good idea in here, but it's one of those things you'll likely see better realized in supplementary works. Here's hoping the movie ties things together a bit better.
The book was better than I expected. The references were on point and made me feel like a kid again every time one was made. I loved the world that Ernest Cline created and even I didn't want to leave the OASIS. Wil Wheaton was a pleasant surprise. I did not realize he was the narrator until after I purchased the book, and I must say, I would not have wanted anyone else to have narrated the story. I immensely enjoyed both the story and Wil Wheaton's narration of it.
Prior to taking up this book, I wasn’t sure how engaged I’d be in listening to an audio book because I’m usually unable to stay interested based on the narrator’s voice. Wheaton’s narration, however, was a really relatable voice that kept this book engaging and heartfelt. He really gave life to this story and I was able to finish this book sooner than I would have on my own. Now I’m checking out some of the other works he’s narrated, as well as taking top rated narrators more seriously. Listening to people like this is really meditative in their own ways. As for the book, it was a really fun adventure that brought out and talked about some of the coolest things of that decade. I’m really anticipating the film and hoping for the best.
This is a really solid book. Does a great job of keeping the action going and making you guess along the way. If you know the 80s well then I highly recommend it but even if you don't it is still very entertaining. Narrator is good for obvious reasons.
I enjoyed the reading. Wil did a great job.
Fantastic book with a great story, hopeful the movie will be just as great!
Great book, exciting! Narration by Wil Wheaton was awesome! His voice never changed and had a nice rhythm.
Loved it!! Born in the 90s and didn’t get all the references, but still great. I didn’t want it to end.
A great futuristic story mixed with some ability to reminisce on my 80's teen years. Music, movies, games and all brought me back. I guess I never realized that I was a nerd in the 80s but if the author is right I was a raging nerd.
This is an amazing story narrated brilliantly by Will Wheaton. Gripping from beginning to end. Must read.
Great book. I couldn’t stop I had to know what happened. And Wil Wheaton as a crushing fan I was completely engrossed.
That was undoubtedly one of the fastest “reads” I’ve done for an audiobook! Fun and engaging story and Wil Wheaton is a wonderful choice. Hits home for any 80s child but particularly those like me of the old school arcade gaming genre. I smiled many times listening at all hours of the read. Enjoy!!
awesome book. I was glued to my headphones for 2 days straight. now I have to wait a month to get another audiobook. cant wait for the movies
I liked this book and the narrator was great, but the crass language was not appreciated nor did it add anything beneficial to the book.
Fun concept, lots of memories.. very enjoyable
Poor storytelling with so much "telling" and very little "showing." Felt like the author just wanted to brag about how much obscure 80's trivia he knew. A lot of sexism, and some very strange racism as well in regards to the two Japanese characters. Gave me the impression the author's knowledge of the culture was from the 80's too, and not in a good way. Overall a painful experience with little reward.
Growing up in the 80’s AND being from Middletown Ohio i could hardly put it down. I knew every game and movie reference. Though the Middletown places weren’t exact I could picture a close stand in. Will always does a great good and this was one of his best.
The main character makes not one misstep the entire book. He's just good at everything. There's no tension, and never a moment where he seems legitimately in danger of not succeeding. Also the way he emotionally processes certain events is almost laughable. But that being said, this book is a lot of fun. It's just candy. And you need that sometimes. Just turn your brain off and enjoy the reference fueled ride. The narration is fun and full of conviction.
Fun story, Will does a fantastic job reading. If your into gaming culture I recommend
An amazing story of 80s nostalgia and gaming. This was a great book and I will read it many more times.
Great book but I found some of the writing a bit sophomoric. The ending in particular belonged more in a teen romance novel than a sci-fi/adventure title. Overall, an extremely entertaining book & concept.
The story was good, but some parts were redundant when listening to the book.
Really good plots but too much specific meaningless things mentioned. Good narrating
Narrator was good but book was predictable. Fun concept but cheesy outcomes.
This is a really good listen. Loved all of the pop cultural references, great narration. The story was really creative and it really kept me interested in the plot all the way through. I would definitely recommend but I don't think this book is everyone's cup of tea.
This is an easy listen. I loved all of the 80s pop culture! I couldn't wait to finish listening.
I loved this book! Wil Wheaton is absolutely THE BEST THERE IS!!!!!! Wish you could do them all brother!
This was the first book I listened to on Audiobooks, although I have gotten a lot of audiobooks from the library, and I thought it was awesome. Now I'm hooked. The narrator was very, very good. The story surprised me in that it seemed in some ways targeted to a younger audience, but, all of the references to 80's culture made it very interesting for an older listener like myself too. I liked the fact that I could be listening to it in the same room with my daughter and not worry about her hearing anything inappropriate and bad language. All in all it was a fun book and a good book to start with.
This book was nothing like I had read/listened to before! It was truly amazing. I couldn't turn it off at times!
This was one of the best books and narrators I've listened too. I was born in the 60's so I loved the references to my childhood. Wil Wheaton did a fantastic job of telling this story. Highly recommend.
I didn't grow up in the 80s, so I didn't get a lot of the references but they were explained enough that I could still follow the story. Actually, this is such a good read (or listen) that it's probably now one of my favorite books. I was always excited to find out whats going to happen and how our protagonist will solve the puzzles. I love that most of the story happens in the video game world where all sorts of crazy stuff is possible.
The story itself is amazing for any game lover and fan of 80's pop culture. To have Will Wheaton as the narrator an icon of the Era just made the story that much better.
This is a great book and a great trip back to the 80's it was a lot of fun living the past
I think this is a must read book for anyone that grew up in the last 30 years they will recognize most of the references and The narrator does a wonderful job.
Loved the book when I first read it and the narrator brought it to life!
Amazing book, full with pop culture references that a lot of people will find amusing. The narrator it's great finding the voices for all the characters. I would love a sequel
Wil Wheaton did an amazing job with this audiobook. Loved the way he added little touches to the different characters. Well done!
a great listen, ear candy like The Hunger Games. Well read Mr Wheaton.
Loved every second of it! New favorite book of all time! Wil Wheaton was incredible! Would give him 10 stars!!!!
Well written and well read. Five stars all around.
I started listening during a road trip and made 8+ hours of driving seem like nothing. Very entertaining from start to finish and the narration was great. Couldn't stop listening and and will probably listen again.
Very good book. highly entettaining and the narration was awesome.
I.....freaking.....loved this book I never knew I could be thrown into a wave a nostalgia like this and I was hooked from the very start. the character development of wade was phenomenal and the change he made from the puffy kid just wanting to play games turning into someone That's got something to lose is what made me appreciate this character. I'm seriously glad this is getting turned into a film, the amount of detail that went into 80s references was phenomenal and the gaming pop culture closes the generational gap that old and new gamers had. over I'd give this thing 200 stars if I could, definitely my favorite book by far.
Excellent! Just finished reading .... I mean ... Listening. This was the first audiobook for me and I loved it
Very interesting! I loved all the 80's callbacks and thoroughly enjoyed this read. I especially loved the fact that it was read by Wil Wheaton. :)
Really good book with great narration, an engaging story, and well written characters. It drags a little in parts, but overall I thought it was a fun, engaging book, especially for gamers.
Wholly enjoyable. Entertaining, well paced, someone who truly knows and loves geek culture in the best way, and you could not possible beat narration by Wil Wheaton. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys gaming or nerdery of any kind.
Very entertaining listen. Am also very interested to see what Steven Spielberg does with this adaptation.
I was very surprised to find that I liked this story! I am not a gamer, but I did grow up in the 80s, so I was intrigued by the constant references to pop culture, not just the games. I originally picked it up to judge if it would be a good read for my 14 yes old son, but while the book seemed a bit immature for me/a griwn adult (the main character IS a teen), I also feel some of the mature content us a bit too mature. Maybe be can read it in HS. . .
Genial!!! História repleta de ícones dos anos 80!! :) Recomendo
Great book! You will get lost in the story immediately!!
a very juvenile book . written for a 16 yr old. excessive verbiage which reminded me of having to write a paper that had to be a certain amount of pages and we had to fill it with garbage to make the amount .
Great book, love how the OASIS is used as an escape and that everyone is using it all the time. Loved the villain and how much you hate them. Will did an amazing job, and love how he is also very enthusiastic about the content.
Wil Wheaton's narrative is perfect for this story. As a testament to how well done the whole thing is, in fact, I'll disclose this: I stayed up 'til 2:30 AM last night to finish it because I *had* to know how it ended. It's rare that I do that. So, yeah. Download it. Listen. Enjoy. And get pumped for the upcoming movie!
Amazing book! Can't wait for the movie!! Mr. Wheaton was awesome and the story is superb!
I give this book 5 stars but the detail on it is maddening when he tries to explain the simplest thing although the book itself is amazing and I recommend it to everyone and how can you go wrong with Wil Wheaton!
Loved this audiobook. The narrator did a great job with the voices. The pace was good and the story was consistently compelling. I might just have to listen to it again.
One of the best audiobooks of 2015, it's epic. Wil Wheaton is a superb narrator, the story will entrance any listener as they time warp back to the 1980's and all things futuristic-yet awesomely video geek related. I can't wait for Armada, also narrated by Wheaton. This book is f****** awesome! A MUST!
This is the Star Wars of our time. Awesome book. Narration perfect. Very happy I stumbled across a book this well written.
Great on the family road trip! I read it first, then my wife and i listened to the audio book while on a long road trip. Now she wants to read it too.
Great book! Loved all the 80' s references which I grew up in. I'm also a advide gamer which made this book in my top 5 all time. Will Wheaton did a great job in the narration of the book also.
Need to be a Gamer to enjoy this one! The ending was predictable.
This book was maddening for me. On the one hand, I felt the writing was often very juvenile. Things worked out for the protagonist entirely too often, with phraes like "Luckily, I was already an expert in this thing I had no idea I needed to know" thrown around a lot. The references were very heavy handed, and at times the depicted society of the future was a bit too unbelievable. On the other hand, though, I kept wanting to listen. I kept coming back. I listened in the car for the four minutes it takes to get groceries and didn't want to get out of the car. I was engrossed. If you can get past some of the weaknesses in the writing, this is a fun book to while away the hours
I'm not a gamer so I'm surprised how much I liked this book. I was a teenager/young adult in the 80's, though, and really enjoyed the trip down memory lane! Will Wheaton as narrator was an irresistibly ironic touch
This is my favorite book of the last year. It incorporates so many pop culture references from my youth, and builds an imaginative virtual world called OASIS with the elements. It's an edge of your seat kind of audiobook, and I found myself sitting in my car even after reaching my destination in order to find out what was going to happen next. Highly recommended to fans of video games, technology, and 80s culture in general!
