Summary
A picture is worth a thousand words, but sometimes the story behind the picture is worth a thousand more. 2 CHILDREN FOR SALE. In 1931, near Philadelphia, ambitious reporter Ellis Reed photographs the gut-wrenching sign posted beside a pair of siblings on a farmhouse porch. With the help of newspaper secretary Lily Palmer, Ellis writes an article to accompany the photo. Capturing the hardships of American families during the Great Depression, the feature story generates national attention and Ellis's career skyrockets. But the piece also leads to consequences more devastating than he and Lily ever imagined -- and it will risk everything they value to unravel the mystery and set things right. Inspired by a newspaper photo that stunned readers throughout the country, Sold on a Monday is a powerful novel of ambition, redemption, love and family.

Interesting period read, lots of sad depression era facts. The story was interesting but not a page turner, for the most part. Good reader/narrator.

The honesty of the reporter brought me back to a time when journalism was about the truth of what was being reported an not about sensationalism.

Story was slow and hard to follow at times

I enjoyed it very much and especially liked the ending.

Profile Avatar Holly W. Nov 2020

Silly unrealisic story. I understand the need for the dialoguge to be in keeping with the era but really? The characters were ridiculously prim and proper even when intimate. The narration was very bland.

Great listen

Good listen. Narrator did a good job. The story was good but a bit draggy. Wouldn't listen again.

Mildly interesting plot. Good writing, good narrator.

book was slow then it picked up. Pretty good

Profile Avatar Jeff Stewart Sep 2019

Somewhat forced plot based on an iconic late 40s Chicago photo where a fictitious reporter has it backfire and it creates a chaotic chase to undue his mess. Love tossed in through some dragging chapters and - you can read or endure listening to find out what happens.

I enjoyed this book. It held my attention. The author touched on a subject that is not spoken of much. Children were sold or adopted out due to finances during the depression. It was hard times for many. Well done

Love this book! Kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time!

Profile Avatar Kristyn L. Apr 2019

Loved the narrator and era of the book... Story seemed to get a little far fetched at times but overall a good read

Profile Avatar Elaine S. Feb 2019

I enjoyed the book. It’s very descriptive and the characters are likable. The ending gets very far fetched and out of sorts. Timing, weather conditions, events etc. I think the author got lost towards the conclusion.
