Summary
This bestselling and innovative debut novel from Audrey Niffenegger explores the perfect marriage, one that is tested by challenges the couple can neither control nor predict. An imaginative extension of everyday life, the story asks: What if two people who loved each other deeply, married, and faced a life in which one person remained constant while the other slipped fluidly in and out of time?

A modern love story with a twist that invites us to linger over questions of how life and love change over time.

I'll say this for the audio version of The Time Traveler's Wife--the reading was excellent. Both actors were easy to understand and read the book in an engaging way. In fact, I would say that listening to the novel is superior to reading the book. The novel is supposed to jump back and forth between Claire and Henry's perspective, only the writing is so poor that, from dialogue alone, I would often forget who the subject was. On the audio version it's easy to keep track because a woman reads Claire's chapters while a man reads Henry's. I found the book itself dreadful--it's a mediocre chicklit-esque romance novel dressed up with time travel to try to be something more than it is. Both characters are utterly unlikable--snobbish, pseudo-intellectuals who act with complete disdain and disregard for everyone else in their lives. I have no idea why this book became so popular. But, if it's made your list of "Must Reads" I would argue for the audio version over the written any day.

I nodded my head in agreement. I laughed. I cried. Interesting concept for the story and very well written. Very clear narration easy to understand even for not so fluent listeners.

I was disappointed in this book. It was boring and really had no point to the story other than the time travel that just seemed random jumping in and out of his own life. He never tried to fix or do anything other than be a downer.

What a disappointment. Instead of something fantastic like its title and the book's recent popularity implies, The Time Traveler's Wife is nothing more than a glorified Harlequin romance. The plot twist of a genetically doomed time traveling husband is initially interesting, but the plot is monotonous and the characters are painfully shallow. The story drags on forever and is a total waste of time.

Made a decision to not finish this. It’s quite confusing as any time travel plot seems to be but I felt uncomfortable with some of the scenes in particular when he meets himself as a teenager and they ….. you can fill in the blanks! Also uncomfortable with the grown man version meeting his future wife as a little girl. Just didn’t sit right. The male reader is ok but the woman has a terrible winey American voice So be warned . Far better books out there.

What a wonderful love story. Beautifully narrated. And scary too. I never considered the horrors of unplanned time travel. In this, this story is unique. No machines, just genes. I would definitely recommend this.

I really enjoyed this story and they way they narrate through the two main characters. I watched the new television series first and it captures the main concepts of the book and the characters. The book goes further than the show, if you're curious what happens next If you like one, you'll probably like the other.

Not for me. I liked the switching narration between the two perspectives. It was interesting at the start but fell flat by the middle and by the end I just wanted it to be done.

it's a fairly sad book. it's good but I was hoping that at the end of the book I would find out really the reason why he was drawn to her. especially to her as a child. I understand that he loved her but I guess I expected a little bit more answers I have not seen the movie

This book is more like an erotica lol Im sorry but its true. I'm christian, a lot of references on god and religion that don't quite make sense that I found offensive and ultimately unnecessary. Rated r book and not for kids. Not really a beautiful love story just kind of confusing. Jumps around a ton and kind of hard to keep up, with a lot of useless information. I wouldn't recommend this book unless you like erotica. I honestly couldn't even finish up the book it is just way too sexual for me.

Very profound plot and the narration was warm and personal. I truly miss the characters, kinda like losing your best friend. I hope to find another novel to compare just so I can live another day. Maybe there's a little hyperbole there but I really liked this story. please read this book, I promise you will love it.

I loved this book! The love between Clare and Henry was heartwrenching at the end and I couldn't help tearing up. Such strong love is beyond time and space. Wonderful narrators too!

This is a great story. This book is very hard to put down and very fascinating. The narrators are really great as well. This is a great story for those who think that Time passes by way too fast. It is one of the best science-fiction and fantasy books I have ever read.

The book is disappointing. I didn't like any of the characters, they were underdeveloped. Lacking depth.

If you’re into twilight or 50 shades of grey type of books, this one is for you. I found this to be creepy (grooming, borderline paedophilia), bloated (so many inane descriptions about nothing) and pointlessly name dropping to appear cool. This time traveling without control concept could have been an amazing book... but the writer is... not. And probably needs some therapy, it’s ok Audrey, we all need it, don’t be afraid to find a therapist.

I wish I could give this book two different reviews – one for structure, one for content. By structure I mean that the plot is fascinating and the actors are excellent – 5 stars! By content I mean the characters are insipid, self-absorbed, annoying, and their lack of development ultimately rendered the entire effort meaningless –1 star. Overall, I did enjoy the book. It kept my interest and made my commute more bearable for a couple of weeks. However, when it was over I ended up feeling let down by the author. Her plotting was so complex yet smooth that I kept hoping Claire and Henry would end up becoming something more, growing or changing somehow. But alas, they just slog along until their time runs out. So, I’m splitting the difference and saying 3 stars for the book.

Thank goodness I listened to this book before I watched the movie. They are noting alike and if you've seen the movie, read the book because you were ripped off. So little of the story made it to the book.

Nothing about this sounded like a book I would be interested in but a friend highly recommended it. I'm soooo glad I read it. This was a wonderful story and the audio version made it so easy to follow.

At first, I was really drawn into the story. Time travel is such a fascinating topic and the characters were interesting. I liked the way the story is told from both main characters' points of view and the narration was good. However, as the end of the story became increasingly evident, it really started to drag.
