Summary:
Part love story and part ghost story, this is an unforgettable New York Times bestseller about a science journalist and a North Carolina librarian who dare to believe in the impossible.
As a science journalist with a regular column in Scientific American, Jeremy Marsh specializes in debunking the supernatural-until he falls in love with the granddaughter of the town psychic.
When Jeremy receives a letter from Boone Creek, North Carolina, about ghostly lights appearing in a cemetery, he can't resist driving down to investigate. Here, in this tightly knit community, Lexie Darnell runs the town's library. Disappointed by past relationships, she is sure of one thing: her future is in Boone Creek, close to all the people she loves. From the moment Jeremy sets eyes on Lexie, he is intrigued. And Lexie, while hesitating to trust this outsider, finds herself thinking of him more than she cares to admit. Now, if they are to be together, Jeremy must do something he's never done before-take a giant leap of faith.

I got sucked into this book in the beginning. The narrator was awesome! But it started to drag towards the middle and never seemed to pick back up for me even at the end. It was a little predictable. If there is an Abridged version of this I would recommend getting it. Not a waste of time but not one of Nicholas Sparks best.

Absolutely loved it. The storyline was captive, delicate and heartwarming in the way that only Nicholas Sparks can write. Also loved the narration; entertaining, appropriate, funny, and beautiful. Would love to listen to again.

I am a sucker for a good love story and typically would not consider the abridged version of a book; but, the unabridged drags on and on with too much minutia. Good plot, good characters and good ending but this could have been a great 5 disc book; instead, of a somewhat torture to listen to as a 9 disc book.

If you're familiar with Nicholas Sparks' work, this is typical of his writing and doesn't disappoint.

Not my favorite Sparks novel, but a good read. It has another book that goes along with it--"at first sight"

This was a great read/listen. Mr. Sparks has once again pulled at my heart strings. A very good ending and not your typical end. The very last line, brings it all together and makes the story perfect.

Although extremely well narrated, and perhaps the only reason to listen to this, this book is the most insipid, dull, and endlessly boring "romantic" story I think I may have ever read. This may be my first Nicholas Sparks novel and it will be my last. Pages and pages and endless pages of angst about whether or not Jeremy loves the most boring librarian whose name I have already forgotten, in Boone Creek, or she loves him, is painful to suffer through, in the extreme. I kept pushing the forward button to get through the tiresome heart beating and hand trembling repetitions. The entire plot is preposterous. DO NOT EVEN BOTHER LISTENING TO THIS. I give it an F-

As always, Nichols Sparks has written another warm and feeling story. I love the setting of Boone Creek and the library. The characters are unique and real. Definitely a chick's story worth reading. Keep 'em coming Nick. I want more.

Nicholas Sparks at his finest. What a wonderful love story with a great little twist of the supernatural thrown in just for fun. I loved it!

Nice story but kind of slow. I did finish it though and there was a nice unexpected ending.

While this was O.K., it paled in comparrison to The Notebook. I had high hopes for this book and found it fairly slow and VERY predictable.

The beginning of the story is a bit slow but it definately picks up the pace. I like all the characters so far and can't wait to hear the ending.

I found this book a bit hard to get into, slow starting somehow. it has the author's sure touch though. the characters were all likeable and honest. a lot of their charm was in the readers interpretation of them, including the New York accent. the plot was weak compared to some of Sparks other books. I wish he would rewrite the last chapter and make it more emotional.

I am a fan of Nicholas Sparks but I am glad that I didn't start out with this book as my introduction to him as I probably would not have read others from him. It's not as if it is awful, but it is your standard fare with the wounded woman trying to push away a man, and doing it in stereotypically cheesy ways that made me frustrated with her character. Otherwise, other characters have depth. I really like the Jeremy character.

I really enjoyed this story. It kept me entertained and made me chuckle many times.

Not as good as his others. I really enjoy his writing but this one needed something. I will continue to try these but for a first time reader of this author I would go with something else.
