I can’t say this was my favorite Loralei James novel, but even if it was her worst (which it wasn’t) it’s still awesome. There isn’t another author who does kinky cowboys quite like her. One of the other things I love about her books is how much real ranching knowledge she puts into the stories. I don’t know if it’s something she already knows or if it’s just good research, whatever the case, she knows her stuff.
I think part of why I never connected as well with this story was because I was never a fan of Tanna. For some reason she comes off a little bitchy. Fletch was a fantastic hero, sexy, smart, and all Alpha male. He made this story for me. Whatever Tanna lacked, Fletch more than made up for.
I did love how hard it was for Tanna to overcome her fears. For most people, a fear of horses wouldn’t be such a big deal. But for a woman raised around horses who was also a championship barrel racer, it had to be tough. I love that she faced her fear head on and battled through it. Despite finding her a bit bitchy at times, I do respect a strong, independent heroine—and Tanna was definitely that.
Overall, Loralei James is one of the best authors in this genre (in my opinion). If you like hot, alpha cowboys and strong women, you will love her books.
