Unabridged Audiobook
First 1/4 starts off strong and pulls you in, then the middle is a lot of fillers that felt forced and leads into the last 1/4 that feels rushed to wrap things up. Overall I felt more focus needed to be on the monster/creature/entity than what I refer to as character side quests. The narrator was good overall.
Narration was excellent. Strange pronunciation of some words, maybe because I’m used to a South Carolina accent. I started this book as a free copy and went in pretty blind to the premise. I am from a small town close to another small town also named Raeford. The themes of drug abuse and even the horses in a small town felt familiar to my life growing up. Though there are supernatural elements to the story, they aren’t overwhelming. With the struggling families and teen pregnancies, it could’ve been a story about anyone I knew.
