Wakers

I found the story a tad tedious; an interesting concept that is unpacked and untangled and discussed to death… and the incessantly sarcastic, argumentative banter between the teen-aged protagonists added to the tedium. I enjoy a cerebral idea but wish there had been more warmth, joy, something uplifting in tone now and then to buoy the plot. We’re told there is love for others, including the pack of four, but I didn’t feel it. Oddly remote tone; I kept waiting for tragedy or happiness or something emotionally resonant, but the blank tone remained (although I appreciated the ending). I haven’t read Orson Scott Card in decades and I now vaguely remember I used to find him clever and unsettling. I got used to the narrator but also thought his bass-baritone voice was a weird match to bringing two young voices to life.

This book got me hooked up from the start, it’s such an interesting world, I couldn’t stop listening. The narrator is amazing as well!

Interesting yet difficult concept of multiple parallel worlds. Witty dialogue. Plot a bit naive in places. The narrator was excellent.

Started slow but glad I stayed with it. Lots of self communication that I didn’t particularly enjoy at first but later it really helped to know the characters. Interesting storyline about parallel time streams and the concept of free will. Some incongruencies in the description of the whole time stream concept—but this is science fiction. Enjoyed the listen!
