Unabridged Audiobook
First of all, this book is spicy. Like 60% is NSFW which is most definitely NOT what I was expecting from a YA book. With all of that being said, I absolutely LOVED this book! The story was great and fast paced and kept me interested. The narrator was good for Ivy’s voice however, the male voices were a little... off. I do realize that its hard for females to imitate a mans voice but this was just meh. Anyway I still enjoyed this book immensely and highly recommend it. Especially for people who enjoy a lot of detailed steamy scenes.
I loved this book but was very disappointed that when I went to author's facebook page that it sounds like she hasn't even started the next book in this series. I wish I would have waited until all 3 books in this series were all done as I hate waiting for the next book to come out but if there were a release date for next book it would have made it more bearable. Book leaves a real cliffhanger at end of book so Only listen to this book if you have patience for the next one to come out probably a year or more? from now.
I gave this book a three star rating for two reasons (contains spoilers): First of all: I appreciate some diversity in sexual orientation, but if it just comes as a two liner, where the main character's best friend ( who becomes a main villain) states that she "swings both ways" - it comes across a bit token-ish - and in a way I would've found it more honest to leave it to what it is: straight-as-a-nail. Which brings me to my next point: What in the world is this obsession with this girl-says-no-boy-says-yes-girl-says-love-of-my-life dynamic? I mean it's a fantasy world, but have multiple waves of feminism done nothing to the concept of consent? (Honorable mention of one scene where safe sex is discussed). And please someone explain to me how these characters have magic, mind-blowing sex without verbal communication? Having that said: I was fascinated how detailed one can write about sex and find a MILLION words for body parts without ever having to name them. A big part of the book is sexual (I really need to learn the subtext of "steamy", I guess (not a native English speaker...)) - I don't mind that and the story is somewhat gripping and well thought through. Don't know yet if I'll listen to the other books - but it was a good entertainment.
Wicked is my first time reading Jennifer L. Armentrout and I see the reason she’s a favourite of readers of fantasy. With a combination of Armentrout’s riveting writing and Amy Landon’s impeccable narration, I was swiftly drawn into a world which was fun, sexy and suspenseful. A world in which Faes pose a danger to humans and one where the members of a special organization called the Order, hunts and kill them. Wicked, the first book in the Wicked Trilogy, takes readers on a journey designed to entertain and captivate. A journey filled with suspense, adventure and romance. Ivy Morgan attends college by day and hunts Faes by night. A dangerous job, which places her at risk of a short life span. Despite the risk, she’s motivated to carry out the mandate of The Order to destroy the Faes. A motivation fueled by a past tragedy, which led to her avoiding close relationships. Ren Owens, a swoon worthy, flirtatious, but dangerous and intense alpha male who works for a special brand of the Order. He came to New Orleans for a special and dangerous assignment. He can’t afford distractions in any form, but he never counted on someone like Ivy. Several encounters with the fiery red-headed beauty have him completely smitten, Ivy, on the other attempts to fight her attraction by staying far away as possible. Unfortunately, her boss requested they worked as a team when the danger levels in the city intensified. Soon, Ivy and Ren will find themselves immersed in a situation where secrets abound, danger lurks, and romance blossoms. Wicked features awesome characters, with my favourite being Tink, the brownie Ivy rescued. There is never a dull moment whenever he’s around. He will have you cracking up with his hilarious statements. I loved how he had Ivy’s back, even though it was clear he knew more than he was letting on. The banter between Tink and Ivy will crack you up, but what will have you rolling with laughter is his interactions with Ren. I enjoyed the writing and the pacing. The story presented no surprises, as I guessed several things before their revelation. The story ends on a cliffhanger, which left me wanting more. Fortunately, the second book is sitting nicely on my kindle. Amy Landon did an impeccable job with the narration, which brought the story to another level. She’s got mad skills. Her tone and portrayal of the characters made for an easy listen. How she does it, I have no clue, but her voice varied for each character. The voices used matched each character perfectly. Simply fantastic. Fans of urban fantasy, this is a great book to add to your reading list. I am looking forward to reading her other works.
Interesting story line and plot twists.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book and promptly downloaded the others in the series. Glad some of the reviews told me that this is quite raunchy. ;o)
Awesome
Loved it! Can't wait to start the next book. Highly recommend!
I am absolutely obsessed now. I have not been this engrossed in a book in a long time. The plot and the characters kept me entertained. I would have to say that I am in love with Ren and tink’s character. I think think is probably by far the funniest and most adorable character in the book. This book has left me wanting more.
I thought I knew what I was getting into since I read the reviews but man these books are spicy! The story was interesting and developed well, not anything extravagant or ground breaking but a nice book to listen to on my commute. The characters are great and you really get invested in their story. The narrator is amazing! I love how she did all the characters and her voice was so soothing. Of course being a female, her male characters were a little similar but that’s to be expected. She really made the characters come to life!
I like the book but the narrator is so so. its funny and sassy and for a YA I was surprised at the steam lol.
It kept me listening. Characters could have been a bit more dimensional. When the woman narrator is speaking a man's lines, it's very monotonous (aside from Tink). That being said, I was interested enough to continue the series
LOVED IT! COULDN’T PUT IT DOWN!AMAZING BOOK!
Narrator pronounces beignets weird. It’s a good listen especially for a monthly promo. It’s spicy but not as spicy as I normally like my romance novels overall good book just a tad cringey.
Love this book!!
