Unabridged Audiobook
Great book.. Toby could be a bit much sometimes but all in all very good and well read.
I just listened to this book for the second time. I enjoyed it immensely both times. The characters are well developed and their motivations are believable. Their dialog is thoughtful and witty. The reader does not know where he's going until the end. I highly recommend it.
A really clever thriller filled with twists and turns, but never confusing. The novel is long and sometimes I wished that it had been edited down a bit. There were passages of what could only be considered whining by the main character, made worse by a very good narrator who did the "whine" very well. Once that was over with (it is mainly around the beginning), the story was quick-moving and fun to listen to. The narrator does a great job. He has a soft Irish accent and was able to take on the male and female voices without any problem. I recommend this book if you want to have to think.
LOVED this book
slow and boring but the narrator had a nice voice
This book was very slow and dragged on a bit. It didn’t get interesting until towards the middle of the novel. There were also a few unexpected twists towards the end as well. At first it was difficult to understand a lot of the Irish slang, but I eventually got used to it. I would consider listening to another novel by this author. The narrator does a pretty decent job as well.
Did not enjoy at all. Not what I expected
Clever story line but even better narration. Paul’s voice was captivating and perfectly emotional.
I loved it! Tana French is the only female author l can think of that is able to write 1st person, believable male protagonists.
Great listen. Endearing characters keep you engaged from page 1. Plenty of turns made it hard to stop listening between opportunities. Highly recommend.
The heart of this book is a fairly good murder mystery with a couple of interesting twists. But the endless introspective first person narrative had me hoping he would get to the point. The narrator’s delivery was overdramatized at times and the end was somewhat limp.
As a previous Tana French fan, I am very disappointed by her latest. Improbable plot, way too much self indulgence by the main character, over emoting by the narrator. But then again it is Tana French so that counts for at least 3 stars.
Pointless. Unrealistic. Over dramatized narration.
I have really enjoyed Tana French's other books but I was so disappointed in The Witch Elm. Painfully slow and predictable.
I listen to a minimum of two audio books a month and by far, this book has the best narrator I have ever listened too. I feel as though I am watching a movie. I visualize and feel the emotion of each character. I wouldnt’ t call this book a “page-turner” in the sense of urgent suspense; however, it kept one guessing to the very end. Excellent book best narration ever. Enjoy.
