I got 90% through and just couldn't do it anymore. racism and misogyny are all over this book. I highly recommend to stay away.

Zombie Apocalypse meets "The Little Engine that Could", Great EOW Classic Zombie Apocalypse narrative, Most interestingly, told through the eyes of a teenage boy whom had already lost everything. The perspective easily allowed me to float back to my youth providing a unique experience versus other Zombie storylines, i.e. what a 40 year old (me) would feel and do given the circumstances. A , I would write more if this were a compensated review - not the case - hence, I'm starting book two now...

The author of this book was very awkward in his portrayal of women. Very sexist and condescending towards all female characters

Quite nicely observed characters, though all are unlikable and the entire book utterly boring

I couldn’t get very far because of poor vocabulary and weak descriptions. Not a favorite of mine.

This book is incredible. I really really enjoyed it the narrator is phenomenal. It just drew me in I didn't want to stop listening to it. I was really upset at the end because the ending ended so abruptly that was before I knew that it was a series of books the second one picked right up where this one ended excellent excellent book. If you're into the whole zombie thing you'll really enjoy this book.

I've listened to a lot of "zombie books" and this one is pretty good. Zach has been through a lot on his journey so far and the ending of the book most definitely has me ready for part 2!

Out of all the “zombie apocalypse” novels I’ve read (and there have been dozens), ‘Zombie Rules’ is pretty high up there for several reasons. First, the writing of the characters and character development keeps the plot engaging. I wanted to learn more about Zach and those in his group. Second, while there is plenty of zombie action, the author doesn’t rely on zombie encounters and gore to carry the plot. Lastly, some novels in this genre are clearly written by novice authors who rely on worn out tropes and overused literary devices for the genre. Graham Halstead seems like a more experienced writer and it shows. The only real issues I have with the book is that Zach really comes off like a pretentious jerk. His vocabulary is not on par with the vast majority of teenagers and it makes his dialogue awkward and irritating at times. There are some other places where it seems like words were substituted from a thesaurus to add sophistication to the writing. It would have been okay to just use standard words. Two examples of this are the words “opine” and “edify”. No teenager tells another person that they are going to “edify” them with regards to instructing or correcting them. Additionally, the characters are always “opining” this or that. It made the dialogue clunky at times.

A 12 years child fantasy where he is the best and smartes man alive. And the grils are objects that are divinizing him.

Great apocalyptic zombie book! I’ll be using my next credit on the 2nd book on the series! Too bad I have to wait 2 weeks!! I want to find out what happens next! I did find the author tended to over use certain descriptive words and would use these words a number of times in the same paragraph. It was distracting! The narrator does an awesome job and is enjoyable to listen to!

Entertaining listen that kept me hooked until the end. Doesn’t have a true ending due to the sequels but worth a listen

I have read the entire series 3 times before writing this. Easily the best book series I’ve ever listened to with loveable characters, suspenseful action, and a great deal of realism I’ve never seen in a post-apocalyptic story. The narrator does a great job of adding feeling to the way he tells this story.

Really like the premise, but writing is not good. Feels like the author goes overboard with vocabulary choices in an effort to sound intelligent, but it’s just wasted words. Also would add that his portrayal of ALL women characters as either dumb/lazy, helpless, or conniving is lame

Not an original idea, but really well told. Great narrator. I wasn't aware initially that it was the first in a series of books so the ending took me by surprise as it just seemed to "stop". I've now picked up book 2 and am enjoying that too. I'm struggling to understand where some of the reviews about racism and misogyny are coming from. I detected no racism at all and depicting some of the women as manipulative and unpleasant isn't the same thing as misogyny. It depicts some of the men as unpleasant too, but that doesn't have a label apparently. It's a zombie / dystopian survival book. There are plenty of them out there. If you like the genre, this is a good read that rattles along nicely,

A good storyline and the start of a long journey judging by the number of books in the series. Very good narration.

I had such high hopes for this book. It started off with such foul, and immature language and ideas that I couldn’t even continue.

The fantasy of a thirteen year old sociopath. One of those guys that think they’re superior to all others because they have a bigger vocabulary. The end of the world fantasy of an incel. Lack of imagination, predictable and one dimensional. Women characters are even more simple minded and treated as sex objects.

YA zombie TWD fanfic. It was alright but at some point the teenage competenceporn angle of the narration grew tiresome. Fun but nothing new, one remix of King's s***house rat to "outhouse rat" was homage but twice felt clunky.

Exactly what I was looking for. Love the characters. Excellent setup for the store line too. I really liked how they started it so as to tell some of the story first and then bring me to the beginning. As with most every story, I enjoyed getting to know the characters and look forward to the rest of the the books. The narrator is is great too which adds to the story so much.

I read the books before not having the time to read more and books 1-4 was a read that I didn't want to stop. Hard to not just keep reading on as the author does an excellent job of building the characters and making it seem real. LIm looking forward to book 5 and hopefully they have 6 &7 add shortly. I review of book 5 sounds just as great as what I read and I like the narrator.
