Unabridged Audiobook
Very thought provoking story. Narrator really brought the book to life, probably the best I have heard.
I really liked the story and the writing. The reader, however, went from whispering to yelling Very annoying - with earbuds especially. I had to keep turning the volume up and down while she tried to "act" out the story throughout the book.
I thought it was great, kept me engaged at work, some details I feel were a little drawn out and the ending kind of seemed unfinished but I still thought it was beautiful
This has a decent plot but needed more detail upfront about the abuse to and by the children. That would have explain so of the extreme reactions of both Avery and Cole. I did not care for the narrator. Avery always sounded plaintive or whiny. And the hysteria of each parting was over the top . I fast forwarded through those scenes as the dialog was very repeatative. The ending was a surprise, but by then I didn't really care any more.
Don’t bother reading this unless you’re a fan of juvenile fiction. It was unrealistic on so many levels, characters had no depth, and much of the story was predictable. However, it did manage to include a nice twist at the end. Otherwise I’d give it 1 star.
This was an interesting audiobook. Disturbing subject. I do agree with other reviews about the narrator volume issues (sometimes too loud or soft). Overall not my favorite.
Good story, very tragic, and a surprising ending.
Intense! Bravo!
Awesome book. Will follow this author!
This is a very grim story dealing with hard things, but very well written and performed. Stolen children, cults, abuse, all play their role. Some of the characters will astound you. If you can deal with hard issues, I highly recommend it.
Could not get past the first hour. Absolutely hated the narrator's voice and draggy, sleepy read. Wish I could eliminate this book from my library.
Good easy to listen to story.
I thought it was a crazy family, the twists just kept coming.
Really liked this one. A bit drawn out but still worth the read.
Wow, this one took me by surprise, I really thought the boy set the fire. Really good Book. I will listen to it again for sure.
Beautifully written considering the subject matter. Would have been 5 stars except for a few critical parts where it was difficult to separate the symbolism from "reality" within rhe story. The symbolism was amazingly well-done yet in a couple places it stopped my listening because my mind was a bit confused. All made perfect sense in the end.
Great storyline. Engaging!
The ending results of all the characters was interesting. I can’t imagine having to have gone through what they all underwent. The story left me melancholy and a bit sad.
Soft voice and then screaming so hard to regulate the volume.
Never saw it coming!!
Excellent read . Kept my interest.
I really enjoyed this book, it was intense and intriguing. I was totally caught off guard with the ending.
Excellent story. I was all in!
Amazing narration with passion
Really enjoyed this book, was interested throughout.
Finished in one day. Gritty and gripping.
Great narration. Good book kept me engaged. It as a bit drawn out at times and took awhile to get to the punch but overall I enjoyed it.
It was well written; the topic is a little strange. I think I would recommend it.
This was a very good story. The biggest problem was the narrator. It was absolutely awful. I read a lot of audiobooks. This Hass to be the worst. I had to have the volume so very low or so very high. There was no happy medium throughout the whole book! The volume adjustments were terrible. I had to be right by my speaker in order to keep changing the volume from low to high. I recommend probably reading this book, but good luck if you’re going to listen to it all the way through.
Did not like this book Very repetitive.
It was alright, neutral.
