Summary
Anthem is set in a distant collectivist future, when every form and emblem of individualism have been erased and society has reverted to a preindustrial level. In this novella, as many of her writings, Ayn dramatizes her philosophy of Objectivism in the main character. Its hero is a scientist in a world where the pursuit of knowledge is a crime, and he struggles against the established society to discover the meaning of individual freedom.

Narrator was pleasant to listen to… but I didn’t understand the book at all!

To Emma: With respect, I think when you're talking about true equality you have to take it to that extreme, it has to be that way. That's one of many reasons why it's a fairly tale and can't possibly work. I think it's genius that she wrote it this way.

Presented some thought-provoking ideas, but the writing is a bit clunky and disjointed. I think the story and the concepts would be better understood and grasped if actually read vs. listened to on audio. This just didn't quite grip me as I had hoped it would.
