Unabridged Audiobook
Pathetic. This is one of the dumbest crime novels I've ever had the missfortune to read. Don't bother.
Light-hearted & fun to listen to. This is a new Series for me & although I enjoyed it, Audiobooks.com don't seem to have audiobook number 2. What's up with that? The rest of the Series is available for purchase (books 3 - 27) but no audiobook 2! By the way, it's called "Strawberry Shortcake Murder."
boring, narrator voice was annoying
The story is very slow going and picks up some at the end. This is a good book if you are working on a craft or painting and don’t want anything too complex to listen to while doing the craft. There are also receipts between the chapters I don’t care for.
A rather fun, light-heated book, ideal for listening while cooking (or baking - then you can choose from the listed recipes).
Very boring. Typical slow moving mystery. Too much narrative between characters.
Very creative way to keep the reader interested.
A fun listen, I like how she methodically rules out suspects and just keeps working her way to the solution.
The narrator was fine, but wow. This book isn’t for me. I’d been uncertain after the first few chapters, but figured I’d give it a try anyway. Just reached a point where the author casually described a disabled character as retarded and I’m done. Deleting this one.
I liked this one, especially for the small town vibe and the detailed character building. Only the end was too fast, and a bit disappointing, considering the slow building work of the whole story. I also didn't really like the kinda mean depiction of the female characters who were not attractive to the male gaze. otherwise, I liked the universe. I should go more into the cozy mystery genre
Cupcake story, or CC cookie story. Good enough read. Sweet story with no language or offense story lines, which was refreshing. Murder mystery, simplicity style.
A great light cozy mystery with engaging characters. The story is well written and entertaining, the whodunnit is well worked. Narration is excellent.
I’ve been reading cozy mysteries for decades and these never appealed to me enough to purchase, but as they seem to be so popular and is part of my book club I thought “why not”? Well, let’s start with “why”. The characters are pretty well developed, and there is a variety of them. I like when the characters get enough descriptors and dialogue so you can get their personality. Descriptions, in general, of events and places were detailed as well. There were enough suspects to make you think but not too many. But, alas, the killer was 1 of 2 I guessed it would be. And it was the one that would I have bet, I would have won. Hannah is okay but she comes off as a busy-body know-it-all. The “why not”: Hannah, as above, has moments of being someone you want to hang out with, but often I would be tempted to tell her to dismount her high horse. The narration is boring. She’s a reader, not a narrator. All the male characters sound like nasally Erkel’s (annoying pre-adolescent). I listen at 1.2 speed or 1.3 if it’s at a boring spot. If you are looking for something to listen to that is easy and doesn’t require all your attention, this is actually a great pick. I take care of dogs and can listen while I play with them or clean.
Hannah Swenson is a fat phobic mean girl. The author unnecessarily went into great detail about how fat, clumsy, unattractive and repellent to men a character was. It disgusted me. How can I root for a heroine that is a complete mean b$&@? I can't. I bought the first few books in the series. A colossal waste of money.
Loved the story and the recipes!
I liked the narrator, story was simple but good. I've seen the tv movie version as well. Not sure if that makes a difference but I like the book more than the tv movie.
Wow, this book wasn't written that long ago but many of the items and references really make me feel my age. Enjoyed the bits of nostalgia there. The mystery part was pretty laid back making it a nice causal read. Made me really want some cookies though
Story was interesting at parts, but could have been ultimately a bit better written and more satisfying in the end. Narrating was overall good, but some of the voices of the characters were annoying.
It's great
Loved this book, don’t know why people have said it was ‘boring’, I’m already looking for the next one in the series.
The story was pretty unrealistic that the local cookie baker could solve crimes before the police. My biggest issue with the book is the narrator. The main character is in her late twenties but the narrator sounds much older. The main character’s mother is early 50s but sounds as if she is in her 80s.
Enjoyable to listen to while working. I don’t have to concentrate on every word to keep up with plot. The story and characters are what I expect from a cozy mystery. The narrator is perfect for these stories.
A little boring and slow. I kept losing interest
just couldn't get into the story
I loved this lighthearted, easy read. So nice to enjoy by just listening and not having to think about it. Thank you.
Light-hearted listen. I liked it.
makes us all think we can be a super sleuth like Hannah. Great receipes!
Nothing too intense here. Just a fun murder mystery. Love the cute little town where everyone knows every....or do they?
Long and overly convoluted! I didn’t enjoy this as much as I thought I would. I’m not a baker, even though I have a sweet tooth, so the frequent recipes interspersed with the story, didn’t appeal to me. I’m still going to pursue the other stories in the series, with the hope that the stories are not too disparate...
I knew I was going to be hooked on this series after reading this book! the narrator does a fantastic job. The recipes are also very delicious. I tried a few from this book that came out wonderful!
If you like murder she wrote you should like these. Nothing too taxing a pleasant easy listen. I personally found some of the narrators voices a little annoying but she read well.
I really enjoyed this book ,it was easy to listen to. I am looking forward to the entire series.
cute easy listen
VERY light listening - story is dated (before cell phones etc.) and predictable. Chapters include recipes for cookies (some sound pretty good.)
I enjoyed this. Different enough from the Hallmark movies based on the book. A little slow in places though.
I love these books in the movie-form on Hallmark channel. However, this is really a poor choice for a narrator!
Ok lah
I love Joanne Fluke books! And I love baking cookies. The narrator is awesome!
Refreshing! Reminds me of a good Hallmark mystery.
Terrific book and excellent narrator, can't wait to continue the series.
Cozy mystery - slightly deviates from the HMM movie but a cute lil read. Narrator wasn't bad, either. :)
A must listen!
This is a cozy murder mystery with just a touch of romance. It's perfect.
Easy listening. Fun murder mystery with a great twist.
Cute, fun, and kept me guessing right until the end. Absolutely loved it from start to finish. The narrator was perfect.
