Unabridged Audiobook
Overall, this was an engaging read and I’d recommend it to romance/mystery fans, and maybe fans of psychological horror as well, to a lesser degree. It definitely delivers on it’s interesting premise, and takes a pretty unflinching approach to protagonist’s trauma. Watching her work through her psychological conflicts was unexpected and entertaining; to be honest I wasn’t expecting the author to go as in depth with Francis’ state of mind as she did. This was a major plus for me, but I could see where some people might get frustrated with the slow-ish pace. What frustrated me, however, was watching Francis get built up as this stoic, razor sharp master of espionage, and then watching her lapses in judgement undermined that growth. She makes some really not-so-smart choices and kind of obvious mistakes that I had a hard time believing a girl with her amount of training would make. Nothing egregious enough to to completely break my emersion, but enough to knock off a star. All in all, this is a well rounded, stand-alone novel (no severe cliff-hangers here!) that is well worth reading if you are a fan of romance and revenge. Enjoy!
