Summary
Dallas, Texas. November 22, 1963. Shots ring out at Dealey Plaza. The president is struck in the head by a rifle bullet. Confusion reigns. Special Agent Paul Landis is in the follow-up car directly behind JFK’s and is at the president’s limo as soon as it stops at Parkland Memorial Hospital. He is inside Trauma Room #1, where the president is pronounced dead. He is on Air Force One with the president’s casket on the flight back to Washington, DC, an eyewitness to Lyndon Johnson taking the oath of office. What he saw is indelibly imprinted upon his psyche. He writes and files his report. And yet, Agent Landis is never called to testify to the Warren Commission. The one person who could have supplied key answers is never asked questions. By mid-1964, the nightmares from Dallas remain, and he resigns. It isn’t until the fiftieth anniversary that he begins to talk about it and reads his first books on the assassination. Landis learns about the raging conspiracy theories—and realizes where they all go wrong.

The book is informative and interesting regarding the career of a secret service agent however it does not discuss much of the actual assassination. Pass up if you want an in-depth discussion of the shooting or Warren report. Definitely listen if you are interested in hearing as stories of secret service agents interacting with presidents and their families

What a total waste of time. After an hour and a half I quit listening because it was nothing more than a day by day, hour by hour regurgitation of the author’s big “after college adventure” and short lived career as a secret service agent. The fact that he calls out other professionals as having made a mistake based on his “long running” career as an agent with no real training of any sort in forensics or the actual world of investigations. Interviewing bad-check writers does not constitute an investigation. What an insult to actual investigators everywhere. Don’t waste your money.

Thanks to this brave person for telling it the way it was, how it happened and with no spin. Truly written from the heart!

Fascinating to hear the inside scoop of events from so long ago. Also, to finally hear why the magic bullet was on the stretcher at Parkland.

This insightful book tells of one man's experiences, emotions, and perspective of one of the most significant historical events of our time. I would read this again. I also recommend it to anyone who enjoys these types of books.

This secret service agent, assigned to the Kennedy party on the November 22, 1963 made a colossal error and confounded history. He found a nearly intact bullet in the Kennedy car and picked it up. Rather than give it to authorities later he put it on the President's bed in Parkland ER as the President was pronounced dead. This lead to confusion and speculation of a second shooter on the Grassy Knoll. What an idiotic thing to do. If I did that I would not write a book about it. The book is boring and only the last 2 chapters relate to the Kennedy assassination scene. WHAT A KNUCKLEHEAD

I loved it

A little anti-climatic because I watched his press tour after the book release, but a fun trip into what it was like to be a secret service agent at such a young age in a time of promise and hope for America. You will appreciate these never revealed insights into the lives of the Eisenhower and Kennedy families from one who was right by their side.

I really enjoyed hearing more of the history. and perspective from the writer's point of view. this narrator is easy to listen to and carries good voice inflection.
