Unabridged Audiobook
Grantville Fan-written stories can be as good as those written by known authors because they write from their field of knowledge/specialty. In particular in volume 2 are the stories focused on a German pastor coming to grips with the religious tolerance in Granville and its implications for 1633 dogmas of his faith. The conclusion of his struggles highlights one of the most relevant truths as necessary in the 21st Century as in 1633. A second story of note is the extremely well written drama of medical culture and care clashing across four centuries. As Grantville emissaries struggle to tolerate 17th century academics and doctors at the closest University, while attempting to set up a jointly staffed modern medical school to turn out new fully trained doctors, nurses, and other health care workers up to 21st century standards starting with both uptime and downtime students. Insightful tutorials on public health issues, herbal medicines, specific trauma cases, and personal health care are woven throughout the interplay of characters. And the issue of women's status in a male dominated medical system is addressed head-on. Fun, enlightening, and entertaining.
