Unabridged Audiobook
Great Expectations exceeded my expectations! I enjoyed both the novel and the narration.
Usually I check the sound quality of the narration before I use a credit, but this time I did not have time before travelling. I would have preferred a British narrator. I liked Mark Smith's rendering for Jo; not so much for Pip. "This is a LibriVox recording. All Librivox recordings are in the public domain.... " At the beginning of every chapter the narrator must specify LibriVox? If all LibriVox recordings are in the public domain, why did I have to use one of my paid credits? LibriVox. Prior to every chapter. Why?
Epic novel. Fantastic narration. I'm in awe of Dickens' mastery in story telling.
Complex story. Had to read the Spark Notes! Liked the narration very much.
excellent
I’ve never had and more enjoyable experience with an audio book—the narrator was excellent—has he done any other audio books? I ‘d love to listen to another Dickens book by him—Mark F Smith.
Excellent book, well narrated, only comment is about the American pronunciation of some very English words and names..
Voice is HORRIBLE .
Best Charles Dickens book. Very good narration.
Very nice and soothing. I had to read for a class and made it easier
Did a great job of emphasizing context. His character voices were sometimes unusual, but grew on me. He stayed very consistent the whole way through, unlike some stories that had several different narrators per different chapters.
The Narrator was exceptional and had a great variety with the characters.
Mark Smith the narrator is fantastic, loved listening to this story of great expectations. Excellent
Excellent narration! Loved it.
The American narration spoiled it, just not right for an English story!
Brilliant novel and great narration... Highly recommend
With so much praise, the narrator clearly pleased many listeners. I unfortunately found him limited; three or four of his characters had the same accent, and Pip at 25 sounded like Pip at seven. Still, he was clear and animated, and I may have judged him too harshly.
Another excellent story by: Charles Dickens. Great novel!
Didn't enjoy as much as other Dickens books. Narrator needs to be Britsh. I wouldn't hesitate to listen to Mark Smith reading a novel set in America.
Love the book. The narrator was good, but I have to say some of his choices of voices were a little on the strange side. A little off putting sometimes.
A wonderful book to Dickens's credit! They surely could have found a much better reader. Overall great and sometimes funny.
Excellent narration done by Mark Smith. Really enjoyed the story itself. Loved the twists and turns.
I enjoyed the narration! The novel was a little boring in the middle, but the beginning and ending was great. I really did not see the twist in benefactor coming which is rare for me. The overall novel was good and it was truly unpredictable which I loved!
Brilliant tale. At first I was somewhat wary of a Southern American reading it for fear of a Dick Van Dyke “cockney” accent but I was wrong. It was read with a true command of the text and I found it really engaging throughout
At age 58, I'm finally getting into the great books! For those my age, I think you'll embrace this story (and stories like it) while simultaneously comparing it to your own life. Bottom line ... an enriching experience! Narration well done.
