Unabridged Audiobook
What more can be said of the Literary Master,. Mark Twain, who of course, did much writing while He lived in my Hometown. It always amazes Me how great Twain/Clemens was at writing for the Political Chaos of his times. He makes references to Animal Cruelties, Racism, and a plethora of other subjects... He does it in a tongue and cheek way that makes the uninformed Reader assume their Own thoughts... Truthfully, He is making very Progressive Statements against Political Angst at it's most vulnerable times. Most People assume Twain was racist due to the terms used within his books. He was absolutely not! And a true Abolitionist, in total form. He grew up in a Slavery Society, but while Young, had little way to impact this. When He started writing, and realized the power of his words, and how Humor allows a Man to address the stickiest of subjects... Well, he used this tongue and cheek method to leave it up to the Reader to decide... but in truth.... He managed to get his words out to the Masses this way... without getting his works "labeled" ... It took a long time for People to decide that they "needed to label" him... and that is sad... Because if you knew the Man... You would realize how his words were not intended as "blatant" but instead, "Sarcastic!" And that gives his words Great Meaning in Volatile times! He was Married to a City Chock full of the Best known Abolitionists of their times! Such Greats as Harriet Beecher Stowe, Author of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" was a regular Visitor as her Brorher, Thomas K Beecher resided here. Our little Town, Elmira, NY, was the last stop on the Underground Railroad before they reached Canada. Oh, What Mark would think about current Society pinpointing his works as racist! It is a travesty. One must look past the "words" to realize the meat of the literature
I enjoy Mark Twain. This was an amusing tale that was just right for listening while I worked on a jigsaw puzzle.
