The story was fascinating and filled me with emotion for what the writer endured. The narration sounds like it was recorded in a fish tank and the reading of the credits at the start of Every. Single. Chapter was maddening.

Excellent storytelling. Highest highs and lowest lows of the emotional roller coaster. An amazing author and a hero.

Good book, but the audio version is annoying when they have to read full credits at the beginning of EACH chapter. I mean really, we get it.

Don't bother

Beautifully harrowing story about the most horrifying era of American History.

Narrators accent is a little strange but the reading was good. Hated the credits read at the break of every chapter. Loved the story and was riveted the whole time sad part of our history but what a great storyteller and a brave woman.

great book and narrator

I have a hard time saying this was a good book - only because the content is so painful to hear. To know how this woman experienced life as a slave is heartbreaking but at the same time you are astonished at her courage and strength that helped her through. Good narrator, story a little disjointed at first or maybe I just got interrupted too often. More a documentation of “Linda’s” life than a smooth flowing story. Regardless, a must read.

Good information shared about the oppression and suffering imposed on people considered as chattel. I believe this women probably received better treatment than many others. It’s disgusting, our country decided to turn this direction as I thought the original settlers came to pursue religious and other freedoms. The narration was good.

A part of American history, that should appall every listener. It is most difficult to rape my head around the cruelty a person can inflect upon another with an absence of conscious. A must read…..

Beautifully read. A heart wrenching account of the experiences of slavery.

This book was well Read.The narrator had me enthralled, for a moment I thought I was back in the 1800’s. I enjoyed every bit of word that was written. I am so sorry to know the Miss Harriet Jacobs had to gone thru such a terrible ordeal in life. I recommend this book for everyone to know our past History.

Very glad this life was recorded for us. This will stay with me and improve my kindness for all people.

I the united states human trafficking. and the US owes African Americans bought here against their will and sold like a package of meat. to be abused and all human rights stripped of them.

I am not sure which is better, the story or the narration. Both were great. Once you start listening, you can't stop. All that suffering brought tears to my eyes several times. Oppression must not go unnoticed, injustice must never be forgotten. Well done and thank you.

Great book, but why is this narrated by a white woman?

Everyone must read this book. One of the best slave narratives that has ever been written. Also, this is the best Librivox narration I have ever come across. It is beautifully read.

What a story. It is so horrible that it’s not fiction and Harriets true life. No wonder we are in such a mess still in 2020 with no cognisance of slaves struggle. This should be a movie Narrator was awesome

Just tired of hearing about things that happened long before we were born, It was awful times ! We had white slaves as well, even today but we don’t continue the sob stories or have hate for another race!

Amazing book. An absolute must read (listen to) for anyone interested in the history of slavery and race relations in America. I won't be the same and I will definitely read this again to remember what my history has not taught me. Thank you for making this available and to the narrator for her excellent reading.

Storytelling was amazing! It was real and made you live the experience... the happy moments, the sadness, the grief and triumphs. The narrator did an excellent job in relaying the authors story.

Great book. i could not finish it. The narrator is very monotone! Has no "color in her voice. My ears couldnt take it. Such a shame. I hope someone else will attempt to read it. I will try again then.
