Unabridged Audiobook
I'd like to listen to this book again but with a different narrator. Rayner's accents for the individual characters were good overall, but the main narration was not. It's one thing to read clearly and confidently, but this sounded as if she were trying to convert the congregation and I gave up after a few chapters. I'd be interested to know other listerners thoughts.
I enjoyed the story but the male narrator voice was very irritating.
I enjoyed this book overall because I love time travel stories. However, I found a few things a little unbelievable... after being in the past for even a short time, I believe such an intelligent character as Kendra Donovan would have been able to curtail her use of all curse words because of how judged she would have been because of using them. Also, I don't believe this character would have gone to as much trouble as she did to do something so out of character as to fly to a foreign country to purposefully poison even the worst of criminals. I forgave the out of character event because it was the impetus for her to go back in time. I enjoyed the story enough to put up with such inconsistencies, though. What was more difficult to deal with, however, was the narrator. Her voice was overly strong as were her accents. I found that it helped to make the story easier to hear if I sped up the reading to like 1.3x as this shaved off just enough length of the words to soften the hardness of the words. It was still an annoying voice, but I could enjoy the story anyway. I think I will probably go ahead and listen to the sequel to the book to see how the story proceeds.
I almost stopped listening to this book because of a disturbing beginning! Then to much swearing! Every time the lord’s name came up it was with a curse and i winced and hoped it wouldn’t happen again and I would try to refocus and then like a miracle the character goes back in time and I finally start to enjoy the book and the swearing slows down because people really are offended in the past unlike today where we are becoming more and more insensitive to everything!!! Not good for this world to become so insensitive to everyone! Get it off your chest in private! I live in the bible belt so still alot of offended readers here! And in this day and age people are needing God more and more! The old saying that there are no atheists in a fox hole still rings true! Although there aren’t many people in fox holes anymore! Many People have lost loved ones and are looking for a savior and if you don’t believe then keep it to yourself!
