I loved The book itself. However the narrator was so annoying as her inflections are in the wrong place every time it distracted from listening and enjoying the book. I am seriously contemplating discarding the entire series because of it if she continues to be the narrator.

One of the best female detective series there are and with the superb Alison Campbell narration, it’s a massive 10/10 from me

I enjoyed this read more than I anticipated. It wasn’t quite what I thought it would be after reading the reviews, but I still found myself invested in the story. I also enjoyed the narrator, which definitely helped to keep me invested in the story. Her male voices weren’t over the top or ridiculous, something that irks me with other narrators, so I was able to enjoy the storyline. I didn’t want to start a new series, but after finishing this book, I’m actually interested in the remainder of the series.

A really good listen! I will definitely be listening to more in this series. The book kept a good pace, some nice twist that I wasn’t expecting. Narration was well done.

Clumsy and uninteresting. The narrator made it much worse. Her police voice was a caricature of a Cockney plod, like a bad episode of The Sweeney. It is entirely the author’s lack of skill that failed to engage me. I couldn’t care less about any of the characters. Very mediocre..

Good suspense-thriller book - kept me guessing up until the very end. Loved the narrator - she made the story authentic.

I loved the story it moved very well and the characters were great. However what on earth was the narrator thinking with accents for Sharp n Larch. I lived in Kent in the area this was written noone talks like that! Honestly the voices were horrendous shouted way above the other people needlessly in my humble opinion. Larch sounding like Boycie from Only Fools n Horses n therefore couldn't be taken seriously! Sharp balling out like Windsor Davies in It Ain't Half Hot Mum. As to where his accent was from? No idea. Very off putting through the whole book and will def put me off listening to others in the series with thsg narrator.Shame she couldn't have just read them normally instead of in some 1940s 1950s over acted stage play.

I enjoyed this gritty British detective story. Kay Hunter is a very interesting character. While the tale starts off in the midst of this gripping kidnapping, it was really Kay’s character that drew me into the story. She’s recently been through the ringer and we get hints of that as we move forward through this mystery. I wanted to know more about her throughout the entire story. The mystery itself was worthy. First, we have a kidnapped teen (Melanie Richards) whose body is later found. The manner of her corpse gives Kay clues but a murdered man later in the story muddies the waters for her. For us readers, we get these scenes from the murder’s point of view. So it’s a delicious cat and mouse game. Later, a second girl is kidnapped and this ups the stakes for Kay. My one quibble is that near the end of the book Kay acts out of character, rushing in. Without saying too much, this was an extremely stupid move and so didn’t fit with her actions throughout the story. I felt it was there just to add drama to the story and it wasn’t really necessary. I liked the teen bullying angle and how other teens react to the kidnapping of the first girl. The parents have a different reaction to the kidnapping, of course, but then to learn about the bullying surprised them. It was a nice touch and it also showed that even after the mystery is solved, there are still things to address with the teens. I have to mention Adam, Kay’s husband. He’s a veterinarian and a very supportive man. We only get a few scenes with him but he appears to be a very solid loving man that is devoted to Kay. That made me happy because she has so much on her plate, has recently been through quite a bit, and everyone needs someone in their corner. All told, an enjoyable read. 4.5/5 stars. The Narration: Alison Campbell made a very good Detective Kay Hunter. She captured all of her numerous emotions throughout the story. Campbell also had regional accents throughout and her masculine voices were believable. All around, it was a very good performance with no technical issues. 5/5 stars.
