Unabridged Audiobook
Being a huge Star Wars fan I was so looking forward to this book. But after listening to just a couple of chapters, found it extremely frustrating to have the "behind the scenes " narration constantly interrupting the story. Especially since that narration cut off parts of the actual story.
Apologies in advance for commenting on other reviews, but I feel this needs to be said. Reviewers Wesley and Douglas seem to have missed the point of this audio presentation entirely. I can't believe I have to point this out, but this program is *NOT* Heir To The Empire the book. It's a supplementary behind-the-scenes commentary, as the title and description suggest. Those so-called "interruptions" that the two reviewers refer to as "frustrating" and "tedious" are actually the main feature. If you want to listen to the story, then I suggest you get Heir To The Empire in its full unabridged 13-hour glory, also available on this very website. In fact, I suggest you listen to all three Thrawn books before you listen to the 2-and-a-half-hour commentary/documentary. As a commentary on the book, I found this splendid and I heartily recommend it to fans of the Thrawn trilogy. Zahn goes into his thought process for developing characters and expanding lore while also revealing what details of the story had to be changed to get LucasFilm approval. Zahn had to write for established characters from the novel while also introducing new ones, having them grow and change over time. This is a fascinating look into the writing process of a timeless classic, one which is, in my opinion, the true sequel to the original Star Wars Trilogy.
It's a good story but having the writer and editor cut in ever 30 seconds makes it extremely tedious to listen to. Behind the scenes are great and I appreciate the insight into the effort and craft behind the book but it's frustrating when you are just trying to appreciate the story.
