Unabridged Audiobook
NOT one of her better books, or narrations. Very difficult to tell who was speaking because the same person would be heavily accented in one scene but not in others. There were also some awkward scene jumps within chapters in order for each chapter to be one month during a year. Mitchard is usually an expert at making you see the point of view of each character involved in a difficult situation, but this time she fell short of creating empathy for the main character. Opt for 'Breakdown Lane' or 'Theory of Relativity' instead if you haven't already listened to them!
Don't do it. I couldn't get through the first disc. Love this author, but it is a good thing I did not listen to this one first.
I really enjoyed this book as I have all her others. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because I wished it was longer.
I stuck it out until the end, but I found it very difficult to identify with or even like the main characters in this story. True and Hank are immature, selfish and self-absorbed. True's mother is one-dimensional and nasty. And Hank's family is very stereotypical. In addition to screwing up the life of Guy, True's son be a previous marriage, it was pretty frightening what these two would do to the child they were having together! Fortunately the story ended before they could do too much damage...Yikes.
Unconvincing. The characters were too stereotypical at times, and the narration was tough to listen to at times. Her voice has the same effect as fingernails on a chalkboard to me. But I listened to the whole thing, and finished it smiling.
This book started off slow, it is an awesome story, and well worth the time. Having read all of her other books, I had hoped that this book was as good as the others. IT WAS!! A great read!! Would absolutely recommend.
The main character seems to lack ordinary intelligence, and the reader's (author's) accent is nearly intolerable. (Unashamedly New Yorker's) Nevertheless, as compared to most novels, this one has a fresher story-line. I found myself caring what happened at the end.
Easy read! Characters pull you in quickly and bring you to the edge of your seat. It is suspensful and like all good books it delivers you to a happy ending.
I really enjoyed the story, but the reading left something to be desired. At times I had to listen and listen again and again just to figure out which character was speaking. Jacquelyn should stick with writing and leave the reading to actors.
